Here's my 5'x10' CNC plasma table build thread. It'll be running on a Hypertherm torch.





Started building the base/table

Tacked



Welded up













Guides



Drilled a bunch of 1/2" holes in some 1/4" flat stock and welded it to be an L bar. These get attached to the red bars sitting on top of the table pictured above.

The price difference between the 5x10 and a 4x4 is very insignificant. If you have the space, it only makes since to get a 5x10. If not, 4x4 will do most of what you'll need it to do.

Update.

Got the gantry system on. I decided it was a good idea to put this on casters, but not permanent casters. So I decided to put it on hydraulics...if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing...right? There are also some stainless steel leveling feet from mcmaster car I welded on....work pretty well. I also built the water table. What a bitch that 5x10 plate of 14 gauge steel was to cut...ate through multiple blades on the skill saw. Get it sheared if you can!!

















Stitched every 6" on the inside, and outside. Not quite sure what to seal up the rest of the water table with...suggestions? Silicon? etc.

Is the gantry/slides/etc from a kit? Or all DIY?

It's a kit, I couldn't tell you where we got it from though. It was from a guy on craigslist who builds them, we opted to do our own base/water table to save some coin.

I forgot to update this thread. We've been running this machine almost everyday now for the past few months. It works great! Cuts through 1/2" steel like butter. I'll get some updated pics up soon, and a video!

Plasma cutters are amazing. Let alone on a table.

We have one at the metalshop here at school... Pretty useful.

And by the way, those welds. Are fantastic... What wire feed machine are you using?

This is awesome, I always check Craigslist for a cheap used setup but haven't had any luck. Wanna built me some parts haha :)
