    Mini or Mazda3 or Golf

Need R3v's view on getting a commuter car thats Reliable, Fun and close to 40mpg rating.

Should be new 2014 or 2015 model and not go beyond $30K.

It will be driven 5 days a week at 170 miles daily all highway miles for 1-2 years.

    My options are
    - Mini (which of them to get they all look the same???)
    - Mazda3 5-Door (kinda look like sportswagon)
    - Golf (what more to say)
    - Jetta SportWagen

Let me know of your thoughts and your suggestions to other cars are welcome...

          oh, tough choice.

the mazda 3 2.5 touring would be a good buy. skyactiv is the shit. 37 mpg highway on 87 octane and no expensive turbo shit to break? sign me up.

plus i think it's the most well-styled of the three.

I just picked up my Focus Titanium hatchback. I love it. I'm surprised how quite it is, I love Ford's SYNC and the Sony stereo is great. The shifter is notchy and stiff but I hope it will break in after a few thousand kms. Don't discount the Focus the value for money is great.

I work at Mazda. The new ones seem to not have many issues. But they are boring as shit to drive, road noise is fairly bad, and engines make a racket normally.

Other them that they are styled great and get good MPGs.

I still would vote TDI. Potentially more of a maint whore. But way nicer to drive.

None of those, I am actually waiting for the Ford Focus ST diesel. If it never arrives I am settling for the Fiesta ST.

Maybe 10 years ago that was a good idea but the fed knows you're all switching to diesel so they jacked the price up on it and make you buy urea. You're not saving a thing. The diesel secret is out.

Just buy a gasoline model. You get more usable power, you don't have as many parts to fail, you don't have to refill a urea tank, there's really no more benefits to a diesel anymore.

Ignore the village idiot, diesel is awesome.

2014 Jettas and Golfs don't use urea, most, if not all 2015s do, just depends on the month of manufacture I suppose. Further, DEF is not expensive anymore and seems to be about $7 per gallon.
