I think you are looking for a program called NetStumbler. It will tell you the name or SSID of a network and whether or not it has WEP or other security enabled. KISMET is the one you can use to break a WEP key but it takes time. What you choose to do with this info is up to you. I'm not your Mom.

Yup! She and a friend may split the place, but if her friend backs out she will keep it. Its a one bedroom with a large living room, they plan to split the living room into two rooms [how i dont know] and she gets the bedroom.

Generally it is in advanced wireless config. I assume you know how to access the router? Most likely 192.168.1.1. Default pass is admin / blank (if you hav not changed it I urge you do)

Set your router to wpa (if available it is more secure than wep) choose a key, go into windows set up the same info on your pc & you are done

This is it TJ. If you want to add a little security you could add on a mac addy filter. Then they would have to be using a card that would allow emulation to do the same trick as Joe is asking about.
