Score one for the red team

I was coming back from my cabin today and I hopped on the interstate. I was only on for about 5 min before getting pulled over. Speed limit is 70 and im not sure how fast I was going when I was "clocked", couldnt have been more than 80 tops, I wasnt even passing anyone.

The HP said he was coming down the rest area on ramp when he saw me "doing anywhere between 83 and 85 mph" The guy seemed pretty relaxed and I thought I was going to get a warning, then hes like "well right now all thats going to happen is (pause) im going to write you up a ticket for the offense" even after I told him I have a clear record except for rolling a stop sign about 8 months ago.

Question is, is it worth my time to goto court? The stupid city is about 4 hours away from me. I just think it would be terrible to go up and lose and in addition to the $130 ticket spending a healthy $70 on the gas to get there and back.

Im not here saying I didnt deserve something or I was singled out or to come on r3v and cry and cut my wrists about it, Im just going to try and weasle out of any violation I get weather I deserve it or not.

You were going 10 over the speed limit, hence, breaking the law. You're not getting it dropped. It's not worth the gas cost, or the time. Pay the fine.

Ya, you will lose if you fight it and end up paying $200 (130 for ticket,70 on gas) as well as wear and tear on your car. Not worth it at all although your insurance will go up for a long ass time.

$130 ticket for a 10mph moving violation! Holy crap that's pretty bad.

It was in my mazda not the m3, wear and tear isnt an issue... I think I have about 6k on this oil lol.

Point is I dont think the cop clocked me, I could have been doing some over but not "anywhere between 83 and 85" Im pretty sure he pulled that out of his ass.

If you care that much then hire a lawyer to do it for you. Its usually like 200-300 dollars but they will do the traveling to the court, you dont have to go and lawyers are good at finding loopholes and stuff. Its pretty easy to get out of a ticket if you know what you are doing. Most of them have a high success rate, the lawyer I hired had a 98% success rate. Lots of them also guarantee their cases so if for some reason you dont win, then you dont end up having to pay lawyer fees. Its like a no lose situation.

Wait until the court sends you their lovely correspondence in the mail to see what options you may have. If its offered and you qualify for on-line traffic school, take that option. You'll still get stuck with paying the fine (plus some court related expenses) but you won't have to drive anywhere to resolve it and you can keep that point off your record which means your insurance premium won't increase (trust me, that adds up over three years' time).

I was thinking the same thing. You will receive no points on your license and no increase in your insurance rates (typically). It'll also cost a lot less than hiring a lawyer and/or making the drive to the court appearence.

Let's drive fast and have fun.

Good call jon Ill see what I get. I dont really care too much about the $130 fine, its just insurence thats going to go up thats going to be the kicker. Although I wouldnt mind dropping the whole thing since I have a pretty big doubt that the cop auctually even clocked me weather I was speeding or not.

I will see if I can do an on-line drivers ed thing, worst case I will go up for court I guess.

Its almost a certainty (I can't say it with complete confidence since I don't know your local laws) that when you get a ticket in county "A" and you live many miles away in county "E" the court will offer some sort of option which will allow you to resolve your traffic citation without having to travel the same distance again. You won't know for sure until that infamous letter arrives. Give it three to four weeks - most Government agencies don't exactly function like greased lightening.

Ask for a reduction or make the trip. Ive been to court 4 times for tickets of various offenses. All 4 were dropped or reduced. Its worth the shot if you ask me.
