She needs to give you written notice and cnnot evict you without cause. Unlees your lease states otherwise.

My brother has a 1900 sq ft house in a decent area between Westwood and Santa Monica over a mile from the beach that is valued at 1mil. I just sold my Westwood condo for 800k. I am renting an 1100 sq ft apartment a mile from the condo (Westwood) for 2800 per month and it is cheap.
On topic, she can't legally do what she is doing but the month to month thing deballs you. I suggest being cool and looking for a place to move.

Well the way I see it - I either need to get on a heavy dose of prozac and do the rat race in LA and make some money. OR - get the hell out of California. Rent/homeprices are just going up and up, and the job opportunites are not that great.
I'm thinking of Seattle or the PNW in general....

come to san francisco and check out the rentals...argh is all i have to say. its no wonder EVERY person i know whos parents live in the city are still living @home even though they have decent(50K/yr) paying jobs...its just not worth it to rent here.IG: @Baye30

will she let you sign a new lease??? that will give you your teeth back, so you can inflict some justice. is she the owner or just a property manager? if she is not the owner you may be able to just go over her head to the owners of the property (i am guessing that it is privately owned, since a corp will usually not let this go on for long). in az we have slum lord laws that go after the owners of the property AND the property managerswith some pretty stiff penalties. it doesn't seem like you are really willing to relocateto me. this might be an option for you.

On another note...
My (now "ex") landlord is great. I have been trying to get ahold of her to give notice that I was leaving. She was unreachable, but was happy my GF and I are moving back together.
Basically, I didn't give notice, had a kitten for a few days (WAY against the rules) Had the utilities shut off (since I moved) and basically, I left the place in decent shape, She is giving me back my deposit...even though she doesn't have to. Was still nice to me on the phone, is still cool.
George, I feel bad for you having a crappy LL, but not all are bad.
Hope you find better.

Yea, she owns the place. I had a confortation with her today, it wasn't too too ulgy, but with women it's hard to tell when you crossed "their line" - Men of course are compleatly different with arguments.(I could call you a compleate shit head, and you me, but at the end of the month if I pay my rent and don't cause a bit of trouble - well, all is fair with the world - right? We might not be "pals", but who gives a crap)
What does she want when she knocks on the door 99% of the time? Nothing, she'll ask me "who green ford is that in the parking lot" (as if I know???) Or, probe me with question regarding other tenents(do they have guests staying with them?) Oh, and she been seen searching our trash...(I could go on, and on....)
So far today I've been unhandedly(is that a word) threaten with evection 4 times, and was threated to have the cops come(she cut me off before I could say "bring it bitch"). Not to mention my water and power was turned off for a few hours as they worked on a unit on the opposite end of the appartment complex.
I made it clear that she is not allowed in my appartemnt and I require 24 hours WRITTEN notice. She had the gull to dial her lawer and demand I speak with her (I tried to keep the lawer on as LONG as posiable knowing it was $$$/min). It was a bunch of BLAH BLAH BLAH. I ended the phone call teller her(the lawer) that I have real work to do, and I suggest she might try to do the same.
We left with the understanding that she is not allowed in my appartment. If a workman needs to enter(she claims that they need to, and I can't prove otherwise) they may enter, but not her.
It's days like this that make me wonder what the hell I am doing is Santa Barbara (oh, then all the other days are 70 degrees and sunny next to the ocean)...
