I've had road rash twice before I wised up. Just wait until you meet Mr. Plastic bristle brush. Those bite down things you see in movies are real.

Heh, I have the Alpinestars smx plus boots. Great for track days, and when I was in college (a decade ago) I could wear them around campus when I rode to it.

These are my Red Wing 2263 steel toes when they were brand new.

Here they are now looking and feeling pretty tired after about 9 months of daily use. About 2/3 of the tread is worn away.

I went to the same red wing store last weekend to buy another pair and they told me the 2263 was discontinued. They ordered me a pair of 4403 because it's the next closest replacement, but they just don't feel the same. I haven't gone back to pick them up, but I'm probably going to shop for something else. I'll pay extra to someone if you can find a pair of 2263 in an 11EE at your local red wing store.

I'll play, tried out something new this winter. Palladium Baggy Leather Gusset (Waterproof).

They definitely lived up to the claim of being waterproof. Urban environment mind you, I wasn't fording any rivers or anything. So far, so good.

                          Bringing this thread back!

Just ordered Wolverine Kilometers and should have them tomorrow.

Any advice on breaking in new leather boots?

Wear them as much as you can stand at a time should take about 3-10 days to break in

Fastest way your prolly not going to like.

Step 1: put on your normal sock (hopefully not cotton) and place what ever insole your going to use in the boot. Take you time in arangeing your tounge, and laces and lace tightly, not so tight its going to make your foot numb but tight enough.

2: Fill 5 gallon bucket about 2/3-3/4 full of fairly hot water, and pour in a 1/2 a bottle or so of isopropyl alcohol.

3: place foot in bucket until soaked all the way though I/E soaking wet, remove that foot and do the same to the other......

4: Wear them ALL DAY until 100% dry, not just the uppers but the welt area as well, make sure you do NOT take them off until they are dry, or your going to make it that much worse on your self. Its going to hurt your foot, its going to be miserable, and its going to suck. Once they are dry, pull them off treat them with a good leather preservative and let your feet recover, the next day they will fit perfect.

Now all that said, I didnt find any information on how the leather is tanned, so you may not need to use the Iso to help soften the leather if its been chrome tanned, just the water will do.... I use Obanauf's LP and boot oil on mine and nothing else, especially anything thats got petroleum in it. There are some other good all natural products out there but I am sticking with what I know works

i did that method with my first pair of boots, Then I took them in for a resoling and the boot guy (old Armenian guy) starting chastising me when i went to pick them up because the cork rotted away on the inside. then proceeded to dunk them when i got home :P

Could the rot be caused by just getting them wet all the time afield? I dont think the soak method is going to kill them. Its all that sweat, water, and ash/dirt that is going to get em.

I normally just wear em in the hard way, take about 14 12+ hour days to get mine close enough that I dont notice they are newish and stiff anymore, this is after about 8 2-5 hour stints at night to get them where I can wear them all day 1st. Rebulids take about 10 days and dont need as many short stints. But what and kickins and I wear are a little more stubborn to tame than 99.98% of boots available.
