I find this somewhat offensive. I have an 89' ix with the newer style bumpers but I also own an 86' es with the early bumpers. I like them both but I think that properly tucked early bumpers look more "vintage and original" rather than korny "big ass cell phone" eighties looking. Who is with me?

If i had one, Id he ringing up SOMEWHERE and getting some normal chrome bumps ASAP.

I love the bigger late bumpers too... but if you compare these cars to the Mk2 VWs, both early and late bumpers can look good if matched with the right wheels, stance, and other choice mods.

Despite the reasons previously mentioned, they early cars have the smaller taillights, which some people want. Also, a car in need of an engine swap is usually better served to an eta or early 318, the later cars with m20b25 emgines in my opinion are fine as is for a DD.
