The part about Germany that sucks.

For some reason..... I didn't change my alarm from Friday to Saturday. So I'm awake at 535 to hear a horrific smash. I knew immediately what it was. A car crash. I knew it was bad because there is no place to crash in front of my house. So speed had to have been a factor. I don some shorts and a shirt and rush out side to see flames and a car on its roof. Now.... there's 3 or 4 people already at the scene trying to pry the passenger from the car, but no one has addressed the driver. I try to help, but I don't know how to ask for things. I try to run for water, but I know not where to look for a bucket. Three or four minutes go by and no help arrives. The car is eventually engulfed in flames and the girl that was driving is killed. I'm a fucking wreck right now to say the least. Its 553am and I've watched someone scream and die this morning. What are you going to do today? And this venting just ain't gonna cut it. I'm here and I can't speak the language.... I couldn't do a fucking thing and this girl died. The look of horror on the guys face....

That really blows. I am very sorry. I understand. My Spanish sucks and I am in Mexico.

My wife just came in and told me the girl was pinned in the car and someone climbed in and got her out right before the entire car went up. But no one saw this. She was dragged off to the other side of the car where there was a house and debris in the way. She's seriously injured but alive. My soul has lifted to say the least. I can not describe the feeling I've felt for the past 20 minutes. Its horrible. Like it was my fault... even though I knew that these people were going mach I and caused this themselves... I should go get a picture of the car while its still out there. Now I'm past feeling bad because I know the girl is "ok" and I'm back to feeling angry because she destroyed my neighbors property. They took out 12 ft of concrete wall and burnt down a tree. I'll get pics of the damage.

I would have no idea how I would act in that situation.

So do you live close to an unrestricted section of the autobahn or what? Perhaps an A road?

I've witnessed one freak accident in my life - no one was killed but to see all the events unfold before you in the matter of a couple of seconds does have a lasting impact. Glad to hear that it didn't turn out to be as bad as you first described.

On a different note - going to Hockenheim this weekend? ;-)

I was almsot going to post after your original report but I couldnt think of anything to say besides what anybody else would, of it being horrible and such a shitty situation. I am glad she was pulled out though, and alive. Thats usually a good thing ;P

Wow, those guys must have been flying down that street for all that to happen... Which direction were they going and what did they hit?

They were coming down the hill small hill. The polizei estimated them doing 140km/h About... 80-85mph. The speedlimit here is 50km/h or 31mph. From the slide marks I could see they started sliding all the way at the top of the hill when they came around that little turn right there by the stoplight. They slid all the way down the hill up into my driveway and into the front separating wall of the neighbors house... The one that separates the yard from the sidewalk. They took out the entire section of wall, flipped on the roof and slammed into that tree thats there. The car was maybe a foot from a house, blocking the driveway and up against the tree. Their front bumper was almost down at the main stoplight if you can picture that. Its been a couple of hours and needless to say I'm relieved she's alright. It took me quite some time to fall asleep evening knowing that they made it out ok. The passenger walked away but was cut fairly bad along the face and arms. I never saw the driver, but my wife relayed that she was burned and pinned UNDER the car. She passed out, thats why she stopped screaming. But the wheeled her away on a gurney and she wasn't covered all the way up like a dead person would be. I'll keep an eye on the newspaper to see if they post anything. Like Erik said.... they HAD to have been travelling fast to cause an accident like this. I live in a residential section and on a straight stretch of road. Only thing I should see here is fenderbenders.

That sucks... I picked my wife up from the airport at Hahn, and we were driving down to Paris, and I was telling here all about the autobahn, how there were unrestricted parts and stuff, and how the blame game works if you're speeding.. we come over a hill, and there's a nice Porsche flipped over on the side of the autobahn... Not pretty.. the passenger/driver were already gone, they were cleaning up the area... My wife felt REALLY safe after that....

It was a Peugot of some type. Never got into those cars. Wasn't a bad looking machine... I remember thinking that its a shame to see a nicely done car go up in flames. Body kit, rims, muffler.... yada yada. The car was a total loss I'm sure. Maybe the rear rims and the muffler survived? Dunno. After going out and looking at the scene today..... I don't see how in the hell they did what they did. The only damage you can see is the wall is missing and some of the branches on the tree are singed. The house that is there has been cleaned and repainted already. There's a pile of rubble from what is left of the wall and the guy was already loading it up in his truck to dispose of it. I guess a piece of the car or a rock flew through one of the windows in the house that was next to the accident because there is a boarded up window now. Other than that you can't really tell there was an accident there.
