Car drove fine without it, I am not sure why BMW decided to put a 50lb block of metal in the trunk.
Balance, balance, balance. The people that remove the trunk slab from their cars and leave everything on the front make me laugh. The cars already have a front bias!
Well, it takes about 30 seconds and it lowers the car's weight by ~2%. Who honestly drives their car so hard on the street that you can tell if 50lbs dropped from the trunk?
Although I personally plan on moving my battery back there when I lose my A/C.

How do you figure? in non cabs there is no weight in front where the battery is, is there? No battery in the front of those cars right?
The cab is heavier as it is. I drove mine at 8/10ths on Mulholland without the weight and it handled great.
Have you driven a cab with and without this weight TJ?
i'm not a know-it all but as soon as i removed mine i could tell an instant difference. b.t.w the mounting brackets that hold this piece in had long ago
broke and the "weight" was sorta flopping around on its mount.
Until I used it to jack up my truck it was sitting under my oil removal receptical, identical to the one in your sig picture Dave. Kept the dribble off the floor.
Try it next time you jack something taller than an e30, works great to increase the lift and footprint of the jack.

who cares? 50/50 weight distrubution doesnt mean much. The suspension can be adjusted and tuned as needed.
