    Any subaru love?

So long story short I bought the red e30 when I only had a 20 minute commute with no highway. Within a month, I was commuting 40 mins to one job, 25 to the next, then 50 back, almost all highway. As much as I love e30's, I can STILL only have one car, and I'm not trying to die in an old 80's car that is too fast relative to it's safety for my own good.... So I sold the red car. Many reasons, but mainly because some problems were starting and I knew it wasn't the right car for me since I would be driving so much.

Then I realized I had always wanted my own subaru. After a while of searching, I ended up with this beauty. Pretty expensive entry point but it was owned by the foreman of a subaru dealer and for the little bit extra it was much more car than others has to offer as far as overall condition/maintenance was concerned.

It's a good 15 footer lol. Paint is pretty bad up close but mechanically it's sound and it's been reliable for 1100 miles so far (in b4 1100 miles means nothing). Used a bit of oil but a new PCV valve solved that, on track for a quart/1200 ish. It's stock besides the normal subaru mods you would think of, without saying too much lol. ~290 whp 300 tq. It's a freakin hoot!! And it's comfortable even though the coils are not the best. Only downside is fuel. I'm not kidding when I say if you do a pull at wot for more than like 40mph from where you started, there is a noticeable difference on the fuel gauge. It's bad. The occasional pulls are totally worth it though.

Haven't been pulled over yet either because I drive it like a grandma 97% of the time I'm behind the wheel

    Post up your subarus!!

Some problems were starting with the E30, so you bought a Subaru instead of fixing the E30, then posted about it on an E30 forum...

But seriously, that should be a nice car providing you maintain it. Then again, you could have had an M42 car and had good MPG while having an E30.

I would probably have a WRX if I still lived in Ohio, STi like this preferably but probably too rich for my blood.

Up until recently I was doing a much longer commute in my E30, for two years. It sucked but not bad enough to consider another car once all the bugs got worked out after I got it.

I never understood the appeal of owning a Subaru. You know, unless you're an older lady and have happened to have a room-mate named Jan for the last 20 year, shop at whole foods, and enjoy a Dorothy Hamill hair cut - and there's nothing wrong with that! IMHO e46 is where it's at for an affordable DD. e36's are falling apart, and e9x's are loosing value too quickly.

                I've always liked these cars.

That said, I give it 6 months before you are shopping for another car to daily. AWD is the enemy of commuter grade fuel economy.

^ I was looking at e46 325xit instead of a subaru legacy for a winter dd.. both would be around 2002 model year. Am I retarded for wanting the bmw? I don't like how cheap and light subarus feel compared to the e30. I'm used to shifter slop got dang it!

I daily drive an 03 Forester. It's a catastrophically boring car but its perfect for my daily use. Build quality is cheap, it's slower than everything on the road, gas mileage isn't great (22mpg average) but I do mostly sit in traffic for 12 miles each way. Normal highway cruising I've gotten 28mpg. I've had it for about 10k miles it's been good, had to replace the fuel injectors and some maintenance items but its been reliable. I bought this after my CRV was stolen and insurance paid me out. Hindsight I should have used the insurance money as a down payment on a Forester XT instead of settling for this base model. Oh well, it's a decent car.

STIs are cool. A friend of mine has one, its the only all wheel drive car I've ever spun, in the dry. Another friend has a 2002 WRX with get this... 13000 miles on it (13K, not 130K, you read that correctly) It has some tasteful mods, 3 inch turbo back exhaust, up pipe, boost control, short shifter and STI intercooler. It puts 199 hp and 205 lb feet of torque to the wheels. No, it doesn't sound like much, but its up 20 hp with just bolt on stuff. The car is entertaining, but I like driving my M3 more.

Don't get me wrong I love my e46, it was a 03 330xi. It rode very nice but I was continously fixing random shit every other week.
Alternator, coils, fuel pump, vanos seals, washer fluid lines, automatic light sensor, and front axles. And this was all stuff that was good when I bought the car but failed with 6 months, now of course not all e46s are like this but every problem I had i researched and found many threads of others having the same issues. On the the other hand I've had a 98 impreza for 3 years with over 250k miles and my current 03 wrx I've had for 2 years, both have been perfectly reliable for me, and parts are cheaper for them. But there is no comparison with the awd system, traction and vehicle control in the snow between the two, bmw takes the cake on that by far.

You described my mom, minus the roommate. She had an 2000 Subaru Outback for quite a while, but 3 years ago she picked up an 66k mile e46 325xi touring that she loves. She enjoys that car so much more than the Outback.
