I'm old - REALLY old, and I'd never heard of VH when I saw them open for Black Sabbath. (It was so long ago that Ozzy was still the singer for BS.)

The place was only half-full when Van Halen opened, but everyone that was there knew they were witnessing a rock revolution. The auditorium had started to fill up by the time they finished their set, and the place erupted when they walked offstage. They came back out and did an encore, and the whole place erupted again.

My brother and I were both there, and we were both blown away. Black Sabbath seemed rather ordinary after watching EVH and Diamond Dave.

I bought a copy of their first album the next day - on 8-track. I've had a copy of that work in almost every format - cassette, vinyl, 8-track, mp3, and CD.

Amen. On the ACDC and the thought process. I love the way that song begins and builds up from one soft guitar to two hard chord paying guitars. lovely.

That's weird I'm almost 24. Hey it's cool if you like 80's music, it's fun sometimes but i have no trouble finding modern rock that is great and still pushing musical boundaries. There are infinitely many things and experiences to write songs about and just as many points of view on the same subjects.

Rock 'n' roll ain't noise pollution
Rock 'n' roll ain't gonna die
Rock 'n' roll ain't noise pollution
Rock 'n' roll it will survive

I guess 22 is old now? What type of rock are you talking about that is alive and well? What left is there to sing about? At least in the 80's it was partying, getting laid, screwing off. What's better than listening to 80's music in your 80's car?

Dude you listen to to the radio too much. There's plenty of great stuff happening in rock it just doesn't make it to the radio for the most part; in fact I'd say there's more going on in rock than there is in pop or rap. Rock is alive and well, it's not going anywhere.

Too bad that it seems rock is dead at this point in time. People may laugh, but the 80's without a shadow of a doubt were the best in my eyes for rock. Lots of glam and cheese, but the musicians were great, that os often overlooked. Along came grunge and f*cked everything up, if I had a chance, I would like to take Kurt Cobain and kill him over again. F*uck him and f*ck grunge, shit music anyways.

I have always loved VH (even during their Hagaar period) and EVH is amazing, hell you are talking my timeframe as I graduated H.S. in 80.

Gary Moore is awesome, What about Larry Carlton? Robert Cray? Come on!

There are lots of amazing people out there!!!

haha.... I got a kick out of that one as well. Ive actually almost gotten in a fight defending who I consider the best of all time hands down. But I completely accept others tastes and points of views. :) If you get the bootlegs all through their tours and hear them all improvising and extending songs to 20-30 minutes and hear what comes out of his head at the moment and how a solo morphs throughout a tour, one can better appreciate his skill. I almost never judge people by their studio stuff. I left out 2-3 other very honrable mentions.

-Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple & Rainbow eras)
-David Gilmour (From Meddle to The Wall & especially "Live In Pompeii" in "Echoes")

For bass, I think Victor takes it as far as theory goes...les is equally creative though. Jaco hasn't ever been my style, although he's damn good.

As for guitar, Jimmy Page is the most overrated guitarist ever...not to say he isn't awesome, but nowhere near the best.
