    Anyone know Audi A3's?

My 2002 A3 has developed a noise that sounds like an exhaust leak.
I took it to a mechanic who said it needed a tuneup. After plugs etc no improvement so they replaced two coils. No change. Now thay say it is an injector.

My main concern is I no longer believe him and he says to get at it the engine needs to almost come out. Aren't the injectors on top?
I would appreciate any help you guys can give me.
    Thanks

Sounds like he wants to milk your wallet a bit. Have you tried a different place?

Ok, new shop has replaced a third coil and says the motronic unit is going out. Anyone know if the car can run but the motronic is going out?

There is no missing it runs fine.

What year is it, is it a 1.8? Did you post on vortex in your region? Try the engine forum too. I have new coilpacks in min so I have never dealt with it. The coils in vws were replaced under warranty due to faulty ones. are you throwing any codes? Shit sorry it is an o2, have you ever had the coils replaced? If not you may wanna call the dealer and tell them befor you rplace a third. Do a search on coilpacks in vw vortex, great reading. May help you. If you haven't had them replaced, then I would say go for the fourth, you're gonna need to anyway.
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerosearchtry this, then type in coil pack.

It is a 2002, 1.8, I am in Mexico home of the ONE FUCKING YEAR WARRANTY! no codes. It was running perfectly then made a noise that sounded like an exhaust leak.

Posted on Vortex first one response in a week.

Worst part is this was completely avoidable had both my Sons listened to me. When they came home from school I told them to take their cars (2004 Peugeot 203 convertible and the A3) to the dealers for service.

Three fucking months later off they go in the Pug as the younger is grounded from the Audi. 15 minutes later they come back, a pulley is screeching and they unload the Pug & load the Audi. Now in the driveway as they pull out the car goes from silent idle to a small exhaust leak sound. They call from the road and say it is vibrating.

A tuneup, and three coils later shop two says it needs a motronic (5700.00 pesos or 530.00)

                  Does this make sense????

Nando normally I'd agree with you however, it has been abused by three teen drivers for four years (75k-k/46,000 miles) this is the first problem it has had and more amazingly the interior has no rips and the body is fine (thanks to the bodyshop)

At this point my main question is a Bosch issue. Can the car run with a faulty motronic? Isn't that like expecting a distributer car to run with a bad dist?

The audi forums on vortex are not used much....

There is another forum site that is much larger for audis. I can't remember right now the name of it.

I know enough to know that the 1.8l is not a complicated engine... The Bentleys cover the audis well.

                          Parker,
I posted it a couple more times on vortex to see if some of my friends could help, lets see what happens.
                          Rich

I know you may wanna over describe, is the power running low like it is only running on three cylinders? I find it hard to fault the ecu if there are no codes or the cel isn't coming on.....

                              nkell,

I am not with the car so for all I know it is throwing codes and is running horribly. I never bought a manual as it has always been fine and has been serviced at the dealer because my kids have had it.

Getting English manuals here for cars not sold in the U.S. would require buying it from England. If it really needs the Motronic I will be fixing and selling it so I won't need a manual.

                              Thanks Rich.

From what I have been told (by my 20 year old who may be keeping me in the dark) no cel, power ok but vibration at speed on the highway.

I'll check your links & thanks alot for your time.
