I was already considering a hedgehog, because they really are damned adorable. Illegal here unfortunately. Going down that road, I'd love a skunk..

Only fair, if you're going to buy a dog, she gets a dog too.

I say buy FD, let go of GF, sell FD after values skyrocket like 80s sports cars have, buy house, find wife: profit and better life.

A dog is hardly comparable to a car.. A dog requires your attention 24/7. You can't stuff it away in the garage for winter.

A pet dog is a huge commitment that goes beyond financials.

Who's gonna walk and train it? Who's going to clean up after it gets upset and eats someone's shoes when you leave for say 13 hours?

About the only reason we don't have a dog.

                FUCKING LOL!

I got a dog (border collie mix) when I lived in a condo with my girl. He was great in the condo but required a lot of attention cause he his a herding breed.

Long story short, we moved out and got a house with a great garage and backyard and couldn't be happier..not to mention paying less a month in mortgage payments over the condo rent. That was a year ago and now I have an E30 in the garage to toy with and a second dog.

Dogs are great, I never thought I would love him as much as I do but I'm addicted to dogs now...unless they are Pomeranians. Fuck Pomeranians.

The consensus here is that dogs and rental apartments don't really go well for whatever reasons. She probably knows it too. The question is, Does she really want a dog?

What about a cat? Way easier to take care of and they'll do a lot better in a smaller place, like yours.

I would be pretty annoyed if someone would make me feel like shit for wanting something realistically doable, because they can't have something that will be a pain in the ass in your current living situation.

                          That's what I'm leaning towards.

                            They are.

A dog is an emotional diversion for your gf.

An FD is a diversion for your mechanical tendencies, except it's like getting a purebred Dalmation without any papers.

                                This was surprisingly well put.
