    Went drag racin y'all

I went to the local 1/8 mile with a guy from work to compare his 3.0 m20 to my 3.0 m50. My M50 was a bit faster, but on such a short track you really don't get any speed built, 1st through most of 3rd gear and that's all.
He launched his car, however, I just let the clutch out and floored it on all my runs. My best was 9.05, his was about 9.8, and only about 6-7mph shy at the end. His daughter actually got her stock 325i to a 10.0, which is pretty damn good.

Here's one of me getting raped by a turbo Neon with drag tires and plenty of hp.

Thanks to the guys at www.CheapTriXRacing.com for taking a video of my run.

My last visit to the strip, on the stock M3 clutch, with slipping it from about 2500rpm and stickier rubber, best run was 8.5xx at 83mph. That clutch wore out pretty damn quick, so I don't slip/drop it anymore with the new clutch.

GSTuning, the 8.4s that you ran is what most E46 M3's run!
How much horsepower is your Euro motor making?

Fife--well, it did start as a 525i block and 528i head. :) Just happens to have a 3.0 rotating assembly and full M3 valvetrain.

Stu, when you bored the block to 86mm did you use a torque plate?

Nice, what was your 60'? The 9.0x is the same 1/8 mile that I put down in my STi (at only 75mph), but I still haven't gotten the launch down (and I've quit trying...poor clutch).

Did he have an anchor tied to the m20 car? I ran a 9.6 in a 2.5I u.s. spec engine in a euro car.

                          Re:

What were the trap speeds for the 330' (if the track has it) and 660' (1/8 mile) for both cars? Great estimator of power and helps eliminate the driver.

Mitch, I can check my timeslip when I get back to Charlotte. I do not know if Bill (3.0 m20) kept his timeslip.

I forgot to mention, his car has a bad 2nd gear syncro. He shifted out of 1st at 5500 rpm's, which seriously hindered his times. I suspect that if he would have buzzed it 7200 in 1st, he would have been in the low 9's.

I realy wish we had a 1/4 mile track close by, I'd like to be able to stretch out 4th gear. This 1/8 mile, you can have very little horsepower but if you get a good launch, you'll almost inevitably get a good time.

Aaron, that's a good time. You must have gotten a hell of a launch; what did the car weigh? 4.10 rear gear?
