the man in charge is still the man in charge.

he is commander in chief of the armed forces. taking out osama was his call and his game. dont discredit the man just because you dont like him. he calls the shots.

unless we are just going to start assuming the military does whatever it wants without the president. like bush was not responsible for entering iraq. nope. he was not. he didnt make that call. Gen. Franks decided he needed to get his action on and got that moving under his own power...

thank you. I'm sick of all the republicans now saying obama didn't do shit. one would think we would all just be happy that this 10 year saga is finally over and mr. bin laden is no longer a threat (although al-qaida is)

Simply giving an order, or a set of orders, is worlds apart from actually executing those orders.

If you dont belive me, I have hundreds of Marines at my side who will gladly explain the multiple differences about the statement above.

I am personally glad he is dead, but do I feel much will be changed? Not at all.

Your perspective will be much different after it is you who is sitting atop a hmmwv behind a Mark 19 driving through a very dangerous area where some serious shit goes down. The whole time wondering if the next 15 seconds could be the last you spend on this earth. All because somebody who is watched 24/7 by a team of body gaurds said it needs to be done.

                  just my .02 cents.

                      ^ i really doubt that.

i cant imagine that the decision to knowingly send men to their probable death (even for the greater good) is easy for decent men.

I think you misread what I was trying to say. I'm just simply trying to say that republicans gave credit to Bush for going after Bin Laden for so long, but now that Obama is in office, they are discrediting him for the death of Bin Laden and such. I understand it wasn't him firing the bullets that ultimately killed bin laden, but he is the commander in chief after all...I'm in no way trying to take away from any military service man/women and the credit they deserve

You might want to look back throughout the history of the world.

What the Commander in Chief feels is absolutely nothing compared to the feeling a Marine has when he watches the brother he has grown so close to in such a short period of time hang his dog tags on the peg board before he goes outside the wire, and then never return to take them back off.

I am done. Damnit, we have a political section for a reason!

                          Back to the pics.

                              Cool Story Hansel time:

This car was local to me. I knew the owner (Graeme) and I drove the car for the car magazine I worked for at the time (SPEED). It was a MONSTER - easily capable of spinning all four of those 10inch-wide rims up on the street with a hit of accelerator. I'd driven a bunch of high-horsepower Supras, STis, Evos, Corvettes, RX-7s, 911s, M3s and the like through my magazine gig and this thing was one of the fastest at the time (this was 2004, before 1000hp street cars became common, remember kids).

At the time I drove the car (May 2004) for the story I wrote ("I Was A GT-R Virgin" is out there on the Net I think?) I said to Graeme it was amazing such cars were allowed on the street still and that they hadn't been banned. I said that in the wrong hands they could kill very easily. He shared my view and was going to sell the car before he left for Manchester in the UK for a 6 month posting (he worked for a pharmecutical company).

Unfortunately, he didn't get time to sell it and so left it at home. His son, Emile Dousset, took the car out one night to get some fuel and some smokes. He had an R33 GTS-T Skyline himself so he wasn't exactly a stranger to fast street cars, but this thing was on another planet to that - it was making 700hp @ wheels on run-in.

I saw him shortly before the crash at the BP servo in Wyoming. It was 5min and roughly 1.5km from where he'd die. He didn't know the other two in the car - he offered them a joy ride and they accepted. Showing off on an infamous straight piece of road through suburbia he opened the taps in the wrong spot and found a hump that didn't really exist at 60km/h, but certainly did at 200.

I drove past shortly afterwards and came across the accident scene. It's something that will ALWAYS stay with me. The car had gone airborne, and scythed through a telegraph pole, splitting in half. Emile and the guy in the front were thrown out, being transformed into 20m-long lasagne smears down the road. There was SFA left of them. The 15 year old (pregnant) girl was trapped in the back of the rear of the Skyline, which was left pinned INTO the pole. She died in the wreck after about 40mins of making some of the worst noises I've heard.

It was a fucked situation and a fucked night. It is something that will always stay with me and haunts me to this day.
