hmm.... .012 isn't very much. i just wanted to mention that it isn't likely that the flywheel is the problem. usually its the starter. you never know though

Flywheel was rock solidly mounted. I just measured the new (2 year old) starter vs the original starter with calipers and a feeler gauge. The starter gear was .012" smaller in diameter vs the original. Maybe that made a difference.
