Owen turned it down because he wasnt interested in being pigeonholed in being Bond. It would kind of override all his other work and he knew that. I havent seen a Bond film since Goldeneye and have had no interest in it. the new Jerry Bruckheimer-ish trend in all forms of film has completely turned me off. Explosions, CGI, impossible reactions by cars, humans, to all sorts of forces just makes it too unbelievable to me and makes me lose interest.

agreed. movies in general suck ass nowadays. i like quirky cheaply made no special effects movies. id rather be bored than insultedComment

My opinion is that most action movies lately, especially Bond since we are talking about it, have been seriously lacking in script and line delivery. Lots of stuff has been campy and cheesy. Effects don't make a movie, but they help; I just wish the directors and whatever would push harder.

Just watched the trailer, and while I think it looks like it could be a decent movie, I don't think it looks like a good Bond movie. I hate the idea that it is a prequel, yet it includes modern cars and the new M (Judi Dench). I also still don't like Daniel Craig either. He's just not Bond. It's like he is trying too hard to be Bond rather then just BEING Bond. He's just not right for the part. On top of all this, THERE IS GOING TO BE NO Q! You can't have a Bond movie without Q!Comment

I'm inclined to agree with Apex on this one. I think however think that Peirce Brosnan was a great Bond, a hell of a lot better than Dalton, for sure. I mean, Dalton fucking GOT MARRIED for fuck's sake! Bond doesn't get married! While agree about casting Brosnan to appeal to the Remington Steele wives, Brosnan also brought back what Dalton had completely stripped away from Bond, which was the more gritty side of Bond, the one that sat in his hotel drinking an entire fifth of Vodka by himself. He was great, but he was definitely lacking something in the last film, I just don't think he had it in him anymore. I definitely agree about the whole Q thing though, casting John Cleese was nothing more than an attempt to add some not-needed jokes to the film, and probably to attract more viewers who would probably be more apt to see the movie if there was a Python in it. I for one think that the ONLY Q was Desmond Llewelyn, and trying to replace him with anyone else was a mistake. I think that the new premise of Casino Royale will make for a great new Bond film, and maybe a new style?Comment

Things change, people. John Cleese (no matter what his performance is in said role) has contributed much to comedy, even though us "yanks" dont get it, haha.

What the hell do you suggest to go about Desmond Llewelyn? Resurrect him? The guy's dead.
The new guy isnt that great, but when you jump in the role that someone has taken for 20+ Bond movies, these are big shoes to fill. And you definetly cannot match Llewelyn's personality, so he needed a new one.

Just saw this late last night after the turkey fest .
Basically a decent movie with a really exciting opening scene , I think this guy will do well as Bond .
Almost no screen time for the DBS though .
Oh and did anyone else notice the cameo by Richard Branson ? :DComment

It wasn't bad, but it lacked any plot whatsoever. Def was a good hark back to some of the better Bond films, though. I was not a big fan of Pierce Broson as Bond, but mostly becuase he was too suave. Sean Connery was suave, but also had that slightly adolescent humor and attitude, and wit that ultimately helped make him so popular. I think the series is back on the right track, though.01 325Ci

That doesnt surprise me about Clive Owen. He is almost too good an actor to be a bond but I was hoping with the talk of a change in the bond that a grittier character was in store going with the current trend of rehashing movies (i.e. Batman).Owen turned it down because he wasnt interested in being pigeonholed in being Bond. It would kind of override all his other work and he knew that. I havent seen a Bond film since Goldeneye and have had no interest in it. the new Jerry Bruckheimer-ish trend in all forms of film has completely turned me off.
