Q's For those that have wireless internet at home.

Ok i know a little bit of this and that on computers but I'm new to the whole putting in wireless internet. I just finished moving into the new house. Right now I have comcast hi-speed internet. I have one desktop compter downstairs and two laptops with built in wireless internet compality and I want to hook up a wireless setup. I was just going to go to best buy and ask around but the people that work there just piss me off..idk y...lol...its like everytime i go there i get always get stuck with some retarded kid that says "umm like" after every word...

So I was wondering what wireless routers and other goodies do you guys have/recommend....all i need is the wireless router right?

    Thanks..

Stick with the name brands. I like Linksys.

All you need is a wireless router IF:

      - Your desktop computer has a wireless network card installed.
      -OR-
      - You plan on planting the router next to the desktop computer.

And yeah, stick to some of the bigger brand names.

netgear works too....and no need to buy like that super new technology shit....all gets old on about 4 minues and 20 seconds after you walk out of the store. then when you get home, you'll probably need to replace it every 3 years due to age and it just craps out.

I run a cheap Wireless B Linksys router with my Adelphia high speed and it works great even in my two story house. Some of the computers and an Xbox are wired to the 4 port hub in the back of the router, but we have 3 laptops too.

Belkin sucks dick, linksys and D-link have worked well for me, although I whole heartedly recommend a wired connection.

our linksys took a shit after 3 years of working fine. Now we have netgear and it works just as well.

I bought the RangeMax Netgear router for my girlfriend. I absolutely love it.

You get range, consistancy of speed, 108mb's all around, and great security.

Although it's around $100. ( I work at best buy and used my discount; but if you have the dough then buy it)

I have a Netgear B in my two story house - its actully set up in the basement - and it works fine.

At my condo in Florida, I have a belkin, and its a pain in the ass - it has good range, but I constantly have to reset the settings so it is backward compatible with my b card in my laptop.

I have all netgear equipment, got my router and USB adapter from costco for $80. works pretty well, the router is in the master bedroom downstairs and I get great coverage throughout the house. the best part is since I got it from costco, I can take it back and upgrade my equipment when something better comes out. ;)

only thing bad about netgear is their wireless connection software sucks... I disable it and use WinXP's built in wireless connection software.
