It was a dumbass comment, he wasn't meaning to insult the troops, he was meaning to insult Bush and support bringing them home.

What John Kerry said was pretty stupid but it was still blown way out of proportion. It is very true that recruiters comb the poor neighborhoods looking for people to join up. Kerry did fight in Vietnam by the way and won a purple heart for doing so.

What he said was not stupid, it was very arrogant of him and very degrading to the troops. There is no way it could have been taken any other way, and it's total bullshit that he was "supposed" to say something entirely different as has now been released in the last few hours.

The fact that he DID say it, now that was stupid.

I've always thought this was one of the main reasons he didn't win the election. Too many American voters didn't connect with him. The thought of that crazy broad being the First Lady was the straw that broke the camel's back as far as his presidential aspirations were concerned.
