They ahve college repayment programs now then BTW.

Bummer you already have credits because I tell my junior personnel that by their 6yrs they better have all their lower level classed done. Those are much easier to get done Active Duty.

Sup again... Lost track of this thread for a bit. Hey just know that just because you go through FMSS on the east coast doesnt mean you will be stationed there. For the most part, thats how it used to be but since the war has started, they goto the west coast as well. I have a few buddies that went from FMSS in Legeune to being with 1stMarDiv here in Pendleton. If you are motivated, I strongly suggest you stay away from the FSSG or Air Wing. Even though they are considered "green side" they are all a bunch of pogues in mine and most other grunt corpsmans opinions. Do your first tour with the grunts, that way when you transfer to another command or even another auxilary unit in green side, things will be alot skater. If you try going to the grunts after you've been at a really lax command, its a little different. Oh and when you do go with the grunts, PLEASE do not be one of those guys that do a 3 year tour with the grunts as a H&S corpsman working in the BAS. Go to a line company! If you are a good swimmer, you can probably go to a boat company. They ride around in zodiacs and specialize in beach and cliff assaults. If you dont mind getting carbon dioxide poisoning and riding around in a big steel coffin that miraculously float and end up smelling like you had sex with a lawnmower, you can go with a track company. They do amphibious landings and mechanized assaults. If you like flying in helos that saw action in vietnam and leak hydraulic fluids and dont mind the near crashes then you can go to a helo company. They specialize in helicopter assaults and you get to fast rope and rappel(though you will probably NEVER do it in combat) I was in a helo company as a platoon corpsman first then the next cycle as the senior line corpsman. Theres alot of little collateral duties in specific companys as well. The boat company usually provided the "trailer" platoon which provides all the security for the Force Recon bubbas. So you get ALOT of fun training and ALOT of shooting packages. Helo company provides a T.R.A.P. platoon which stands for Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel. Basically just the Marine Corps CSAR. Again if you have any more questions, just ask away!

Well there is one way that you can stay on the east coast for sure. While at hospital corps school, I was first in my class while we were up for orders. Sometimes if you are in the top 3 or so, you will get to choose your orders while everyone else has to rely on their "dream sheet" which is where you choose 3 places that you prefer and the navy just sends you where they need you. I actually got to sit down face to face with our detailer and I gave up Spain and Italy for 1st Marine Division to go with the grunts. I got alot of shit for that but I didnt want to miss out on the war. Little did I know that it would last this long. I do admit there were times while in Iraq I was like "what the hell was I thinking?" but again, I wouldnt have met the people I did and gone through that experience. Anyway sorry to go off track, everyone will tell you that if you want to go to the grunts, dont worry cuz thats where you will be sent anyway but dont believe that! I know ALOT of people that wanted to go with the grunts and got screwed going to the regular navy and people that wanted to goto the regular navy and got sent to the grunts. And they WILL NOT change those peoples orders! So do yourself a favor and as easy as corps school is, study and stay at the top of the class so you will have a better chance of getting what you want. Since you want to stay in North Carolina you want to go to 2nd Marine Division. The current MCPON is a corpsman and did his first 4 years with the grunts. Our community is really trying to get better incentives and maybe even bonuses to go green side. Its a hard and stressful job, you are ALWAYS in the field for training, playing f*ck f*ck games, get off late and goto Iraq with boots on the deck kicking down doors and getting shot, blown up and constantly patrolling while our "counterparts" on the blue side go to work late, get off early and get fat and nasty. Their "Iraq" deployment is them sitting on a ship in the gulf getting the same pay as us even the hazardous duty pay and with half the work. Its been an ongoing argument for along time but hopefully with this MCPON, things will change. Sorry if you notice the hate and discontent. When theres people like us that join to specifically go with the grunts and do our part and you see these blueside guys faking injuries and claiming mental issues to keep from going to the greenside it gets old quick. You'll see what I mean when you're there. Sorry I just needed to vent...
