SILBER COMBAT UNIT DELTA (M-Technic Marshal)
RTFM:http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=56950 -
I havent read the majority of this thread but Ill add my 2 cents.
You bring the thunder down on your kids and your going to end up missing out. Sure they need to know whos boss, but I dont just want to be the dictator, Id rather have a relationship with my kids. No kid is going to want to shoot the shit with their dad if all he does is punish em.Back to my roots

I tend to notice, too, that my friends who get in trouble and are constantly giving their parents shit were raised Uber strict. I never felt the need to rebel, and always got along fine with my mom. I was also raised to be myself, and that self expression was a good thing. Hence where I am at right now.
I think a lot of parents who choose to raise their kids like assholes were/t raised strict themselves, so they have no frickin clue how much it can suck. I have never been grounded, even, do you know why? Because I was raised that it doesn't work. Raise your kids right, and you wont need to punish them.01 325Ci

Then there's my girlfriend's parents that always seemed to punish her for things she wasn't doing, they wouldn't even let her go to a friend's funeral with me because the guy died of drugs, they told her there would be drugs there and she couldn't go. She wasn't allowed at concerts for this same reason. She's never touched drugs or a cigarette and never will, and it's certainly not because of her parents not letting her go places for this rediculous reason.
Punish after, not before. :|Comment

Those of you that do not have kids, and in particular, have not had teenage kids, STFU. Its really easy to say I'll be like this or like that . . . until you have had to deal with some of it from this end.
Some kids need things more strict, others don't. Its a delicate balancing act trying to figure out where the lines are to be drawn.
Some of my 14 year old son's friends have parents who are very lassiez-faire and the kids are pretty good. Others, the same parenting style, and the kids are total shits and run all over them. I also know some that are strict and kids are good, others who are strict, the kids are absolute terrors whenever they are out of sight of mom and dad.Current Cars2014 M235i2009 R56 Cooper S1998 M31997 M3Comment

That was pretty much my point. Yes, i do not have kids, but i can fore see my parenting, i will of course lay down rules a little more than my mother did, a curfew, a study time (towards their bed time, give them a break after school), and a free time, and you better believe if they get in to trouble and i find out, i'm punishing them. Nothing too strict, perhaps a few days of all study time, no play or whatever i feel is necessary. But taking away video games for no good reason? Not letting them look the way they want? No thanks. Let 'em be kids, let 'em get in trouble, better they do it young than when they get older. Those of you that do not have kids, and in particular, have not had teenage kids, STFU. What I hate most in when my wife defends my daughter for doing something she knows better about. Pisses me off. If the child does something "wrong" you have to at least let them know you know about it and that should be the last time it's done...even though it will happen again.
For the most part a child is a blank book.
I also think it';s very very important to let your child find their own religion. I hate nothing more than seeing Christians (or any religion for that matter) teaching their kids about the bible (for example) and enforcing the parents beliefs on the child.
If my daughter becomes Christian, so be it. I won't like it but it wont change my view of the person I raised. I've let my daughter go to any church she has wanted to. Although I have to admit I find it funny when she tells me how borring they are.
I'm not a big fan of anything having to do with the bible....Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

I think the people kids eventually turn into has alot more to do with what their parents are doing with their lives.
For instance, if the parents are hard working people, the kids will be hard working people. The parents are alky's with no responsibility, the kids will be alky's as well.
Think about your friends from high school or college whom you knew their parents as well. I bet alot of them turned out to be alot like their parents.
But shit, what do I know, I'm a single 21 year old.

I don't know about that JGood, my Girlfriend is trying to make something of herself, she's still in high-school, but getting good grades and is motivated to be someone. Her parents are worthless pieces of shit and it makes both of us sick to see that, she doesn't want to turn in to that.Comment

True. But I do know ALOT of people who grow into the same personality that the parents have. I guess this is AFTER respect is gained, which is another story...I don't know about that JGood, my Girlfriend is trying to make something of herself, she's still in high-school, but getting good grades and is motivated to be someone.
