I dont know what your definition of a 'gateway drug' is but....
The "gateway drug theory" describes the phenomenon in which an introduction to drug-using behavior through the use of tobacco, alcohol, or marijuana is related to subsequent use of other illicit drugs. The theory suggests that, all other things being equal, an adolescent who uses any one drug is more likely to use another drug.
...is that not basically the same thing u just said?
Yeah I didnt know that was the official definition. In that case yes.
To say that weed is a gateway drug is to say that there are more heroin addicts, pcp users, crack whores, etc. than there would be if pot never existed. I don't agree, but we'll never know.
On an individual level I suppose that everyone has to make a personal choice about whether to try recreational drugs. Many will chose not to and that's probably a good choice for them.
I believe that if you have a genetic disposition towards being an "addict", you're more likely to start out with booze than weed. I think that when you smoke weed, you are pretty much in control of your actions, and I think most addicts are looking for the escape that harder drugs and alcohol offer (personal opinion).
I cannot out "old" blunt, but I can say that I'm 40 and have smoked weed since I was about 16. Am I a better, more productive and more successful person because of it? I don't think so. I'm pretty average when it comes to my ambition and level of achievement in life and that's okay with me. Just like it's blunt's nature to go 150%, I've always been happy going 75% (way before the pot).
People ask me why I smoke weed and it's hard to explain. I think that my life can easily turn into a series of chores. I get up at 5:30 am, take a dump, floss, brush my teeth, etc., etc.. At the end of the week I often wonder what the point is. Why bother? What do I get out of this? So I paid the bills and have a place to sleep. When I smoke some weed and listen to some Radiohead, it starts to make more sense for me.
It seems that one part of the "gateway" arguments is that government and society tell us that all drugs are bad. When people find out that weed is not as bad as they were led to believe, they think that maybe other drugs aren't bad either? Does anyone see where I'm going with this?
I remember when they had the 55 mph speed limit and told everyone that driving faster was unsafe. Just like everyone else, I drove 70+ and lost a little respect for laws and the people that enforce them overall.
Just my thoughts. I don't really care if anyone else ever tries weed. I don't even mind it being illegal.
Pilots here have to undergo drug tests every 4 months - if anything is in your system - you lose your licence, I can't believe you'd even take this risk.
no shit sherlock hence why I've stated over and over I plan on quiting long before I become commercial certified or even become instructor certified. FFS right now Im taking private lessons a couple weeks a month while I goto college full time.
I dont quite agree with you post except this quote right here. MOST OVERRATED BAND besides Kiss OF ALL TIME!!!

Call me on what you don't like - You & me get along, so you can say whatever and you know I'll be cool - I'm actually interested in what you think, as I covered a lot in a short post. I don't ever get butthurt, especially yours, J.A.'s, blunt, & trent's responses to what I type. All ya'alls is good people by me.
It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

So right now, my Son is about to turn 16. AFAIK, he has never touched pot. I had been smoking for years by this age. I started at 8, was daily by 12, dealing at 13. I was far more ambitious at 11 than my son is at 15...but I got far more ambitious at 32 that I was at 16. Did you miss a peak? Did I? How will we ever know? Would Mozart have been a better composer if he had waited until 16 to learn piano? We will never know...but I can tell you that being a hard core typa A personality is tough on a person. Weed can help soften that, take some of the pressure off. Basically, the whole "driven" thing.
BTW, AFAIK, Bluntie-poo is 36. You and I are both older.

If I could smoke a hit or three now and then, I would go right back to it. I know me very well. I am one hit away from being a 24/7 stoner...just like I always was. These last 9 years are only a bong hit away from being wasted.
Oh, and on the whole "Radiohead" thing? Drop that crap. You will end up a skinny toothless whore on El Cajon Blvd if you keep listening to that crap.
sorry, just had to.

Now, in seriousness - I wonder how much better any of those you chose to list might have been had they passed on the drugs and just concentrated on playing at the full level they might have been capable of.
Drugs are an illiusion. Everyone knows that.
Ever wondered how "Inagaddadevedda" might have turned out had it actually been "In the Garden of Eden"? How about "Kashmir" or Stairway to Heaven"?
Really, bring a stronger arguement. I can.
Aerosmith is a bunch of nearly geriatric old dudes who, at the request of doctors, all laid off - just laid off, not quit - Steven Tyler was the only one who still claims he quit entirely. And look at the sharpness they have now going back and playing classic oldies. Also, Tyler himself stated that he regretted the amount of time he wasted being a burnout. Read up on what he says. Lots of other old rockers echo the sentiment.
How about metal - like it? I do. Helmet - for their time the single tighest band I recall seeing live. Straight edgers.
If you even try to bring a weak arguement back, I'm warning you now - I plan to use Nirvana and more importantly Alice in Chains up next time. Poster boys for what bad living with H can do. I hate Cobain, so I encourage you to give me a reason to rip him apart.
Ah yes helmet. I love helmet enough to not read any more of this bullshit and blast it in my office. Truth is, everyone has their own views on drugs. I dont do them, but I dont give a fuck if the guy next to me does...as long as he's not on my porch.
In all seriousness, drugs do fuck up your head kids. It's a matter of how fucked up you can get and still function within your own lifestyle.

Man, I never knew it could get like that on weed. I learn something everyday. I guess the mental addiction can come with anything to that extent.
