I dont think weed leads you to harder drugs per se, I just think it breaks that barrier of doing drugs period and brings you in an environment where obviously youll see other drugs and lowers your guard to doing those drugs.

no. I think it makes it more possible for one to try harder drugs because of certain circumstances, but I dont think its a "gateway" drug in the way people make it seem.

I dont know what your definition of a 'gateway drug' is but....

The "gateway drug theory" describes the phenomenon in which an introduction to drug-using behavior through the use of tobacco, alcohol, or marijuana is related to subsequent use of other illicit drugs. The theory suggests that, all other things being equal, an adolescent who uses any one drug is more likely to use another drug.

...is that not basically the same thing u just said?

Who said this was about being a "great person". He was a great musician, and marijuana use no doubt played a significant role in this. I never said drugs make people "better". But I'm not going to say that drugs ALWAYS make people "worse".

I don't smoke weed anymore, I gave that up a while ago for personal reasons. Everyone is different, I don't nag at the people that do smoke and tell them they're not going to be "better people" because of their own decisions.

Everyone is trying to get ahead of the other guy in life -- It's the nature of the game. In the industry I work in, being slow on my feet is not an option. On the other hand, if was trying to rip out some killer music on a day-to-day basis then marijuana might just fit the bill.

Assuming that I "hit the pipe" and suck minimum wage dick just shows how low you have to go to make your point sound valid.

Comparing Gates and Waters was a pretty simple comparison; both are masterminds of their own talents and pioneers in their own ways. It sounds like you've really got a chip on your shoulder with a past drug addiction. For this I'm terribly sorry, and I hope your bitterness will subside.

Most people eventually find the error of their own ways. For some, marijuana use will prove to be one of those errors. For others, it might not. Learn to be a tad bit more open minded and accept the fact that not everyone lives their life as you do.

                      Best of luck.

I am rather a Libertarian in most respects and can appreciate the notion of marijuana being decriminalized. I have no problem with people making the choice to light up now and again.

Having said that, I can tell you that at the ripe old age of 36, I know of NO ONE my age who has any level of success in life that they earned or maintian that regularly uses marijuana. Of my peers, the ones I know that still fire up are all mediocre people at best, if they have not gone downhill.

The only couple of people I know around my age that still partake that live well do so because they came from money or have been given the keys to daddy's successful business.

                          Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

Pilots here have to undergo drug tests every 4 months - if anything is in your system - you lose your licence, I can't believe you'd even take this risk.

Ok.......weed didn't make those guys any better.

                              You asked for it.

Now, in seriousness - I wonder how much better any of those you chose to list might have been had they passed on the drugs and just concentrated on playing at the full level they might have been capable of.

Drugs are an illiusion. Everyone knows that.
Ever wondered how "Inagaddadevedda" might have turned out had it actually been "In the Garden of Eden"? How about "Kashmir" or Stairway to Heaven"?

Really, bring a stronger arguement. I can.

Aerosmith is a bunch of nearly geriatric old dudes who, at the request of doctors, all laid off - just laid off, not quit - Steven Tyler was the only one who still claims he quit entirely. And look at the sharpness they have now going back and playing classic oldies. Also, Tyler himself stated that he regretted the amount of time he wasted being a burnout. Read up on what he says. Lots of other old rockers echo the sentiment.

How about metal - like it? I do. Helmet - for their time the single tighest band I recall seeing live. Straight edgers.

If you even try to bring a weak arguement back, I'm warning you now - I plan to use Nirvana and more importantly Alice in Chains up next time. Poster boys for what bad living with H can do. I hate Cobain, so I encourage you to give me a reason to rip him apart.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.
