The history of our country began with people fleeing the injustices of europe with the dream of individual freedom and the opportunity to provide a better standard of living for their families. Guns were necessary to obtain food and for personal protection. Many states required their citizens to be available for use in the local militia should the need arise, and required all land owners to have a firearm. The founding fathers believed in the wisdom and responsibility of the citizens they served.
If you look at the history of europe in the last few hundred years, the wealthy owned the land and owned the guns. Guns were something the average person could not afford, or was not allowed to have. Prior to WWI and WWII there were gun registration and confiscation. Very few people had guns. I imagine if they were more available in WWII the Nazi's would have had some problems when they were rounding up the Jews.
Today I hunt, target shoot and collect various guns to some degree. I have some very fond memories of going hunting with my father, and owning a gun was a rite of passage when you became a man. My parents taught me to be responsible with guns, and everything else in my life. I feel safe with a gun in my home and I know that if someone breaks into my home I at least have the chance of keeping a criminal from robbing, raping or murdering someone I care about.
I own a few "assault rifles" and so far they haven't possessed me and made me want to kill someone. I enjoy the challenge of shooting at a small target at a long distance, and I enjoy the time I spend with my friends while shooting. I also enjoy the history of the military type guns I own, as well as the craftsmanship and even "art" in their design. They remind me of what our veterans sacrificed so that I may enjoy my "freedom". Lastly, I have never heard, or met a politician that I trust enough to surrender any of my freedoms or rights that others have sacrificed and died for....

Hi Hawk.
I am certainly not on a battle against any idioma. I am only expressing my point of view that assault rifle may not be necessary i a civilian world unless a guy is a weapon collector and has its weapons locked up being glass or in a safe. Wether I live in Australia, Canada or USA should not be an excuse used to keep me from expressing this point of view.Leave a comment:

You mean if I load a pistol and lay it on the floor it wont jump up and shoot me? No way lol.Leave a comment:

Hey Lee, I just had the opportunity to read though this thread, and I thought Id start by saying I am Pro-gun I have class 3s for automatic weapons (assault rifles etc) I own many types of weapons that you would most likely not be comfortable with a civilian owning. But that is not my point. It is apparent you are from Canada where you guys forfeited you gun rights long ago So my question is to you, why are you even commenting in a thread that solely applies to U.S. citizens (law abiding ones at least). It appears you are just trying to seed your anti gun sentiment repeatedly. Course this is a net message board and you can post whatever you want wherever but were trying to have a debate on this and someone this wont even apply to commenting is a waste of time. We understand you are anti gun and think that a .222 as u called it, which is actually a Remington .223 is inaccurate I have several rifles that shoot less than 2in groups at 1000yrds with it so do us all a favor and get your facts straight. Cars kill more people a year than guns so maybe we should all drive econoboxs and ban all cars that can do more than 5 mph so were all safe.
I am from Colorado I live 10 mi from columbine so do not speak with authority from what you have heard from the news. Two of my high school friends were in the school when that went down one of them an avid shooter that could have killed them both on several occasions had he been armed my other friend inside was the last person out. One of my close friends was one of the S.W.A.T. Members that entered the school first and he agrees that had a teacher been armed the matter would not have turned into a massacre that it was. So since you seem to think police are adequate let me fill you in the Littleton deputy that was a school guard ran outside and away from the building when he heard the gunshots and called for backup instead of protecting the youth. Also a neighbor with a 3 story house had a clear shot on them with a sniper rifle he had bought a Remington PSS and asked if he could take them out and the police tied his hands, when he had a clear shot with no innocents anywhere near them. Guns didn’t cause columbine two kids overdosed on antidepressants did it a gun was their tool. A pistol and a tech 9 that it was illegal for them to own until they were 21 so what would banning them have proved? Not a thing. I went to an inner city school and you knew what kept people in check? If someone would have tried that shit there they might have shot one person and they would have had about 15 guns on there head in seconds.
And if anymore bleeding heart libs want to debate this I’m game. And let’s stop bringing up the gun death related crime stats they are flawed as they take into account Law enforcement shootings as well as suicides. Not just crime related shootings even the anti gun advocates agree on that. I have nothing more to say over this it’s a constitutional right to bear arms period which some how I don’t equate to .22s I believe it applies to all weapons. Guns have made America free in the first place an armed society is a safe one.
Dude, are you an idiot, guns kill people....people don't kill people.:rofl:Leave a comment:

Guns are not the problem...people are the problem. I do agree you shouldn't be able to walk out of a gun show with a firearm. That's just silly.Leave a comment:

Because your blind to the fact that there are tons of forums and tons of meets where this is talked about. It does not say it had to be organized before the problem arises but it also could mean at the time. The minute men were formed relatively quickly and they were considered organized. Just because your out of the loop does not mean that others are!Leave a comment:

I know that by heart but what is a militia in your words? And trust me its not about making money, its about staying free.
mi·li·tia /mɪˈlɪʃə/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[mi-lish-uh] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun
1. a body of citizens enrolled for military service, and called out periodically for drill but serving full time only in emergencies.
2. a body of citizen soldiers as distinguished from professional soldiers.
3. all able-bodied males considered by law eligible for military service.
4. a body of citizens organized in a paramilitary group and typically regarding themselves as defenders of individual rights against the presumed interference of the federal government.
Looks like #4 fits everyone that is legal here in the USA! Thats if you have balls to stand and fight for your rights!
Even your #4 says "a body of citizens organized"... so how are you organized? The National Guard is "organized". So is the Army. How does a gun owning public end up calling itself organized? Or well regulated? To me, it's a bunch of people with guns. For a bunch of different reasons with a bunch of different skill levels, to say nothing of agendas.
Doesn't sound much like organized or well-regulated to me....
Besides, no one in this country has the balls to stand up for their rights anyway. Otherwise, we'd all be in DC rioting over the loss our rights that has occured in the last few years, not the least of which is unreasonable search and seizure. They don't even need a warrant anymore, nor do they need charges-only suspicions to jail you indefinitely. Honestly-if you wind up on the wrong side of the Feds, all the firepower you can muster won't save your ass.Last edited by Old'n'Slow; 02-15-2007, 09:07 PM.Leave a comment:

I like these bans, they make my unfired pre ban green label ar15s double in value.
I bought six green lavel preban ar15s a number of years ago thay have done nothing but double in value since then. Now they should go up even more.
Best investment I ever made.
And i do have 2(a pre ban carbine and full size sporter) ar15s that I shoot for fun.

Here in Chile, we have a full ban on guns, even to own a handgun you need to pass a psychological evaluation and a waiting period of around a week, also you have to register the gun at the police station and take a course.
With this kind of regulation, all that happens is that law abiding citizens have no guns, but criminals (who do not obey laws anyway) have the firepower, so they go into houses armed to the teeth and steal, rape and plunder.
There is one gun type that is not forbidden here, that is the shotgun, so everybody (who dares) buys skeet guns for home protection.
That automatically ends up turning some mugger into a hamburger once in a while, and since if you kill someone inside your house the killing becomes self defense, then you just have to be in jail for the time of the trial, which here is 90 days.
I am against gun control, because if thieves and muggers know there is a gun in every home, they will be deterred due to fear, the basic purpose is not to be afaraid.
Make THEM afraid. :blowup:Leave a comment:

More wrong info.
The 5 things are.......
Hicap mags, anything over 10 rounds
adjustable stock
Pistol grip
bayo lug
and flash hider
Those are the 5 evil items that classify an assault weapon!Leave a comment:

When I say," I dont see why people need them" i mean that I just dont take alot of pleasure in shooting big guns..Only "big" gun I've shot is an AK that belongs to my cousin, they go shooting alot, and its just not for me. I can see how people like playing with them, it's just not for me.
I was pointing out that the argument that the anit-gun people will always stick to is that the guns that I'm thinking about (like an AK) were 1st produced to kill people and all the other comparisons were not, if you cant understand that, then your skull in VERY thick.Leave a comment:

If you look more into gun laws, alot of them are just flat out bullshit and make no sense.
They're there to calm the uninformed person's fears about guns.
It doesn't really matter though, the point was there is a list of things that classify an assault rifle, and if you have enough of them you have an assault rifle, but if you are 1 under then you don't.
Its stupid, its still the same gun, it can still kill people just as easily.
Also I would like to say, If I were a criminal, and I wanted to kill someone, do you think I would give a shit about gun laws? Hell no, I would go buy one illegally anyways, assault rifle or not. Banning assault rifles does not protect anyone, it just pisses off gun enthusiasts who haven't killed anyone....Leave a comment:
