I used to shoplift all the time when I was a kid.. mostly lego sets and model kits. I guess I was good enough at it, because I was never caught. I pretty much grew out of it by the time I was 12 though, and I haven't stolen anything since - it's really not worth the risk when I can just buy it and not worry too much about the money.

There is a lot of businesses that don't really care or do anything if you steal, I'm sure they have their limits but I have friends that get away with a TON of crap. One of them used to work at a pizza place, one night after the last manager closed up he walked to wal-mart, got a pop, then came back and emptied the safe. He was an idiot though, he paid for the pop with his credit card and left the receipt on top of the safe. It was pretty easy for the cops to figure out who did it, but no one ever pressed charges, he just got fired.

Another buddy works at subway and frequently employees will help themselves to the cash drawer, no one ever gets fired.

There was one genius there though, he took his who paycheck and lost it at the casino. So he came back and emptied subways safe to go gamble with and get his money back, well he lost that too. I think he has court dates now

After working at food places they are by far the easiest places to steal from. All you do is make the food and don't ring it up, take the customers cash and put it in your pocket. Pretty much impossible to trace that unless someone sees you do it. You can't inventory food that well, and if anyone ever said anything you just say you dropped some food or it went bad etc...

When I was poor living with my two ex-roommates we used to steal stupid shit like those big outdoor ashtrays from the local Food Lion and whatnot.

One thing we used to that was always fun was we would go to stores like Lowes, Walmart, or Home Depot and buy something that was displayed outside the store. (ie. Christmas Tree, plastic lawn chairs, etc.) Once it was paid for we would go back to my roommate's truck and wait 5-10mins then we would drive tear through the parking lot like a bat out of hell 2 of us would jump out, run and grab the item we just bought. Whoever was driving the truck would yell at us to hurry while we would act like we were stealing them in broad daylight. Once it was loaded up we would jump in the bed of the truck and yell "Drive Motherfucker Drive... GO!" and he would peel out of the parking lot. OMFG it was so fucking funny.

Best time was when we bought a Christmas Tree at Walmart in the middle of prime xmas shopping hours. Instead this time all three of us ran down the parking lot, grabbed the Christmas Tree and started to run with it as fast we could while one of my roommates kept yelling "Oh Shit, Run, Run, Run!" I wish I had a camcorder to have recorded the look on peoples faces. One guy even tried to be a hero and stop us. LOL.

My buddy once stole the "people" from Sheetz. You know, the big life size aluminum cut-out that they put on the bathroom doors to mark them male or female. It's still hanging in my garage, I'll post a pic later.

I have a weird habit of taking stuff from bars. Signs, glass, Tabasco sauce, whatever. Me and a buddy once stole a lawn chair from an outdoors bar.

Grabbed a cone from a highway once. Also grabbed the 6x8 floor mat from hooters.

I've never gone into a retail "store" and pocketed any products for sale though. The only reason I took the other stuff is because it's funny and I know it won't really mess up the business. I don't steal simply because I don't want to buy something. But, I do realize stealing anything is wrong and I would do the time if caught without bitching.

I stole 2 skateboards from "Big 5" sporting goods when I was 12.

Not one, but two. At the same time.

Dad caught me. Made me bring them back and apologize.

    Beat my ass bad too.

    I don't steal anymore.

OP, you need a better Dad.

When I was a kid I stole everything that wasn't bolted down, and if it was it just took a little longer.

In high school I used to work a car lot where I was the 2nd fastest with a slim jim. Fastest guy there was the lot owner.

Also used to break into the beer delivery trucks parked in front of distributorships to steal beer. One time we found a beer truck on the side of the road, we stole at least 100 cases of Stroh's beer - we filled the bed of a pickup just under level and threw a tarp over it - and came back and did it again!

We weren't the kind of kids other parents liked. At least most of us straightened up after high school.

I used to work at a video store that had no inventory system. I worked there for almost 4 years at minimum wage, and the owner was a complete asshole who didn't even pay us time and a half for overtime or holidays, and we were open every day. Our manager (who had worked there for 12 years) used to just give us copies of whatever movies we wanted every week when they came in. She hated him more than we did. I'm not sure what percentage of my collection of over 400 DVD's was gratis, but I'm sure it's a large chunk. When I put in my notice, she ordered me the full special-edition box set of the Matrix Trilogy, the one in the acrylic case and comes with a bust of Neo.

I also used to before that, work at Game Crazy, in which there was never ANYONE above our manager there, and we lifted tons of games from that place, him included. When I left there and moved back here to Bend, I took a new Dreamcast with me. We had a huge party at my empty apartment the night before we left, and my manager was there. We were playing it when he showed up, and all he said was "Get that from work? Nice."
