Put it on your rear window, I doubt they'd care. That's where my parking permit is.

I personally like the magnet idea. Get some magnetic sheet like what is used for ink jet printers. It's really thin, so I doubt anyone would notice it is a magnet and steal it.

How much is a new one anyway? Wouldn't it be worth it to try the magnet, and if it gets stolen once, figure something out then.

It's just a little sheet metal tab bent at a right angle. I bought mine from a VW dealership for like $9 cause I'm lazy.

When I was in college I had the same dilemma. There was this guy that would go around campus selling sheet metal strips that were cut to the exact size of the decal and then there was a tab on the end that had holes that were the same distance apart as the license plate holes so that the sheet metal could be sandwiched in between the license plate and the car's mounting holes.

They would not allow the decal to be put in the window because it made it too easy to swap decals between cars. Like if your buddy could not get his car on campus for whatever reason, you wouldn't be able to just hand him your decal so that he can stick it in the window while you go off to work and then put it back in your car when you go to school the next day. Secondly when they check for decals it makes their job harder if they have to look all over the car to find out where you decided to stick it.

Oh.. and I am sure that they won't allow you to do it that way. Its even illegal to do this with your regular license plates but they usually let the dealerships slide because they are constantly moving cars so frequently.. my buddy who is a car dealer will even operate so loosely that he will keep the dealer tag on the front passenger seat. But best believe that if they sell you a new car and they let you drive home with the dealer tag on your car, its going to be screwed down into the mounting holes.

No, I would keep my license plate were it is, in the right place. The holder would just be something that I could stick the bumper sticker parking pass on.

Right.. I understand.. if they don't go for that with license plates I can tell you that they DEFINATELY will not go for that for your parking pass.

                  Okay, maybe I don't understand.

I am keeping all of my license plates in the same place. I am getting the holder just to stick my parking pass on for the college I am attending.

I don't understand why they wouldn't just see it and move on? Why would this be illegal to do with a college parking pass that I would put on and remove every day?

Because they do not want you to transfer that pass from one car to the next. You may never do that but many people would abuse it in that manner. If you put a magnetic sheet behind it, technically you are affixing it to the bumper even though you are not using the adhesive of the decal.
And yes.. it would be the same thing.. but they are less likely to notice it.

But one thing that I would do is talk to the parking enforcement people to see if you can be granted some sort of exception. Maybe you can tell them that your car is a classic car and you cannot deface it with a sticker without affecting the value of the car.

my school will not gve me a second sticker for my second car... so I park without one. When I get a ticket I will continue to park there until I get towed, then I will be fucked

Then it would be a good idea to get the magnetic sheets and cut them out to the right size and stick your decal to the sheet. That way when you park either car, they have no reason to be suspicious of your wrongdoing. During the short time that I had 2 cars at school I would use scotch tape to put my sticker on the bumper. I was so well practiced at swapping the decal that I could use the same tape over and over again.
