My friend and I were thinking of ways to prevent these shootings or at least give students a fighting change. This was spurred from remembering our highschool intruder drills. C'mon hiding in a corner of the room with the door locked seems pretty weak.
One ides was to allow teacher to posses a gun for protection. Training the teacher for intruder situations and putting a lock on the gun would at least allow teachers to save themselves. Shooters would think twice if they knew any teacher could fire back.
The other idea was to make exits all over the school. Second story windows would all have ladders and inside rooms would have doors that could get kids out of the school fast.
Other crazier ideas involved lights that temporarily blind Installed through the school. Or audio devices that damage hearing in front of classroom doors.

Another more movie tactic was to have a fire extinguisher handy and when a gunman comes spray the extinguisher at him and then approach.

I these are just some ideas. What do you guys think could be done to help prevent and prepare for these situations.

you could start by banning violent video games, MTV and a host of other things. teach compassion and tolerance to our children from day 1.

Thanks Blunt...I agree with you whole heartedly. You know if you dont think that systematic violent images dont somehow affect people especially children, read the "Bobo Studies". Sorry for interjecting psychology into this, but its what i do. Kids that were shown violent movies often reacted very violently to a human archeatype doll as opposed to children that watched a neutraly violent movie as the control group. This study has been replicated time after time since the 1960's and the results are always the same. And in further agreement, compassion and tolerance is something that is increasing, but it still needs to continue as long as there are people out there that seem to only see things in black and white in dealing with certian ideas. In this dude's case, rich kids and partiers were just evil. Where they may not be saints, killing them for their worldliness is hardly a justifiable punishment.

like the rest of the world is so perfect....most of northen south america has stuff like this happening every weekend, express kidnaps and people getting killed and mugged over shoes all day long idk what's up w/ aussies but it could've very well been anywhere...not gonna get into it but stuff like this manifests all around the world with equal importance and impact to its people its just not massively exploited on the news. + it was a nor korean retard kid that had a grudge against american ignorance and intolerance towards the rest of the world...who knows i got a bunch of ideas of my own but this kid was a sothiopath.

i think this is a great country, a very generous country who spends billions helping out other countries and i support and helpt it BUT most of its people just have no frikin general culture and its their ignorance and intolerance that creates envy and hatred in other countries hence things like this happens and sick minded people just find horrible ways to let out their emotions...its like the 20th time i see school shootings in the 8yrs i've been living here

granted, he started in with the whole nation dissing guys, but no need to continue. So does anyone know anyone else that was affected by this? One of my girlfriends professors was killed in addition to her friend. So as bad as it sounds the more i think about it, i wish the dude wouldnt have killed himself. I wish he had been killed. i know the end result is the same, but i still feel that i would feel a bit more vindicated if it had been a cop that had plugged him. irrational? i dont know

No, only boomerangings. And something else happend today that propobly won't make the news is that a wall caved in and traped 10 miners at a strip mine up here. I seen the rescue trucks flying down the interstate and then an hour later i heard it on the radio about the miners in Barton MD.

Also, Blunt - you're dead on with video games & the general culture of youth here - we had just as many guns / citizen ratio years ago, and no problems. I live in a small enough town that plenty of students had shotguns in their trucks / cars at school, as we would go shoot trap or birds after school. Never in a million years did we ever even think that a gun was a solution at school, we just had a simple fistfight and that was that. I can't believe how much has changed in the last 5-10 years with kids. I'm not a parent, but I get a feeling I would be brought in for "child abuse" for spanking my kids. I'm glad my parents never divorced, and that my Dad beat my butt when I popped off as a kid.

Poor parenting, poor outcome of kids. Pretty simple in my mind.
