And that is exactly how I would build one if I was to do it. Actually, a higher revving build up 3.0 would be cool too. You could get almost the same power, have more RPM to play with, and the older SC 3.0 bottom ends are a little more heavy duty as well.

I'd go the other way. Take a 964 and "backdate" the body. I'd backdate it to look like the old 1974 RSR. Think IROC series.

Starting with a 964 gets you superior brakes, suspension, interior, and body structure (the newer cars are stiffer).

Adam, stick with the 3.6. While the 3.0s are bulletproof, you get antiquated FI (or carbs) in the deal. Unless you run the old MFI (circa 1973 and earlier) which is a bitch to tune and maintain, the newer motors have way better throttle response.
