There's not a warranty on the unit itself? I find that VERY hard to believe, if it's in fact for the actual unit.
I never said the unit didn't come with a warranty. The unit its self comes with a 1 year manufacturers warranty. After the year is up you can still have it fixed but they really charge ya for the parts and labor. Sooner or later they wont be able to fix it at all because the unit will be obsolete and they wont make parts for it anymore. At that point your kinda shit out of luck.

Edit:
I checked out the sirius website and found this.
Subscribe for the lifetime of your radio! Pay ONLY $499.99 once and forget about bills. Plus, act soon and you can transfer your lifetime subscription to a different SIRIUS Receiver when you upgrade or replace your radio — up to three times — for only $75 per radio. Offer ends June 30, 2007. Hurry!
It looks like the have finally changed it. You still can only do it 3 times and at which time they charge you for the transfer. At least you have the ability to transfer as of now.
The lifetime sub is on the unit BUT if the unit dies the swap is free. If you choose to swap it is 75.00.
I have an S100 that has a three year warranty that I love and have no intention of changing unless it breaks in which case Sirius will fix or replace it.
I used a 91.xx credit I had on my account to make the bulk of the first payment (given me due to their numerous errors) which when deducted from the bill leaves me paying about 308.00 / by 13.00 means I need 23 & change months to break even at which point I am getting their service free.
So the subscription is not transferrable from one unit to another? I mean how else will they manage to sell upgraded units to their customers? If I bought the standard model today and their sales rep wanted to put me into a more advanced model, are they really going to make it so that I will say, "Sorry man, I cant do it. I am stuck in this other radio and cannot afford a second subscription.
I am still a bit skeptical though.. any time there is a company merger, all accountability for promises made goes right out the window. Like when doubleclick.net was in business, they had a very strict privacy policy as it related to customer information and vowed never to sell it. As soon as they were purchased by another company, they sold all of those "private" names and addresses overnight.
Right now with the Sprint-Nextel merger, I am not holding my breath. I will not be surprised on the day when my nextel 2-way stops working because Sprint decided that Nextel 2-way was not necessary. So they can promise that Sirrius will still be in service but who can really hold them accountable to that promise?

As stated earlier, if the unit is defective it will be swapped free. If due to a new unit that the user decides to change to there is a 75.00 charge & a 3 time maximum.
Here is a letter from the XM CEO:
March 5,2007
Dear XM Radii Subscriber:
As you have probably heard, XM recently announced that it will merge with Sirius to form the nation's premier audio entertainment service. The new company will be able to provide you with even more choice and value -
a greater range of programming, the best content on radio, and the best radios and technology.
The new company will seek to ensure that in the future, you will be able to access the best of both companies' programming. This means, for example, being able to get the NFL as well as Major League Baseball, and
Martha Stewart as well as Oprah &Friends.
Rest assured that any radios or other equipment that you currently use will be fully supported, both before and after we create the new company. In fact, following the merger, we expect that existing radios will be able
to receive a mix of programming from both services. There will be no obligation to buy a new radio. And, as always, we will honor all existing multi-year subscription plans.
We expect the merger to be complete in late 2007. After the merger, our new company will be able to offer you an even greater listening experience and be better able to compete among the many entertainment choices that grow larger by the day. XM Radio is committed to providing you with the highest quality audio entertainment and customer service available today. Read the XM Customer Promise at xmradio.com/promise. In addition, if you have questions, information is available at wwwxmradio.com or you can contact the Listener Care team at 1-800-XMRADIO.
As stated earlier, if the unit is defective it will be swapped free. If due to a new unit that the user decides to change to there is a 75.00 charge & a 3 time maximum.
Yeah.. I heard you the first time. I just felt like playing the role of the idiot informercial host who asks stupid questions after they have already been answered just so the audience can hear you say it again.

Ok I'll play
That's right, Bob if the unit is defective it will be swapped free. If due to a new unit that the user decides to change to there is a 75.00 charge & a 3 time maximum.
It's actually rather entertaining. For those with sirius, you need to go online and login to your account to activate it, it is free and included in your subscription but wont play until you ok it.
