DirecTV used to sell TiVO - I have one of those receivers - its damned easy to use, but its a little lacking in storage capacity. Now they sell their own version that they call the DirectDVR. It features a Byzantine series of hidden menus and illogical controls. We have one of those as well - when we added it, the TiVO was no longer available to be added as a new service.

DVD Recorder - have one - and its a pain in the ass. I have no use for those damned discs after I watch an episode of something.

Blunt, the TiVo'd be great for you because you could just "Season Pass' Queer Eye and be done with it.

All of those shows (and many many more) suck royally and it is why I'm not parked in front of the tube much. I don't know how people can get engrossed in these shows....this parade of "reality TV" doesn't interest me a bit. Thanks to the intarnetz I get all the news and weather I'll ever need whenever I want. On those infrequent times where I do flick on the tube, its to watch F1, ALMS or Touring Car on Speed. Other channels I watch on occassion include History Channel and the Military Channel (the latter lets me see how my tax dollars are spent) and TNT for some sports venues. For the most part I prefer to read something versus watch.

You'll need a fresh beverage before you run out of stuff to watch.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

Quit your bitchin'. I've never had cable TV, just an antenna to receive the four or five major broadcast networks. Those shows you listed are pretty much the only ones we have to choose from, and then golf and NASCAR on the weekends. Our TV is free, which is forturnate because we hardly turn it on.

can you record multiple things at once like the tivo shit? ...not like i have that much to watch.

i'm thinking of getting cable because, well, my company all ready pays for my phone, cell phone, and internetz. i might as well spend my money saved on something else i dont really need.

The thing I like about Tivo is that I can tell it to record shows based on what I like to watch - so I set it up to automatically record anything with gratuitous sex or violence, and then I can watch it at my leisure.

You can also set up 'season passes' for TV shows - it will record every new episode, even if they change the time slot the show is in.

                        Very nice.

You can record as many channels as you have receivers for with a DVD recorder - the Tivo units have two receivers built in (at least mine does) so I can record two shows at once while I am watching something that I already recorded.

Plus, you can put a bigger hard drive in if you want more capacity - I have a book dedicated to hacking the Tivo.

HBO, ESPN, Comedy Central and educational channels are the only worthwhile channels now. I would say speed, but they have to much crap on it 90% of the time.
