Did my 9mm course today, shooting an old as hell Browning 9mm. Turns out this gun hating liberal hippy is a fairly decent shot with a pistol as well!

If it was a hi power, you were shooting one of the best 9mm ever made. As to decent shot, what does that mean? :)

well like dub said if its a hi power you would have been the weak link even an old one. SO man sized target at 30 yards or 15 feet ????? ;)

That's indeed what it was.

Decent by what I was told, for someone who never shot pistols before. 20m range, around 6-8" groupings.

Nice, hi powers are pretty cool imho, but i like simple and classic with anything mechanical.
are you doing your rpal course for restricted's?

Nah, basic military small arms training for 9mm. I have zero desire to get my civilian restricted, but I'll likely get my PAL this summer.

can anyone do me the favor of measuring the total width (not length, or height) of an ak47 and an ar15?

i assume the ak47 will be a decent bit wider because of the charging handle.

Depending on the forestock, I'm sure the AR will be wider. Even the butt is pretty wide on an AR compared to an AK.

the fixed buttstock is pretty narrow, but you're right, the telescoping buttstock is pretty fat.

AK width from rivet head to op rod handle tip, 2-9/16" Off an M72, that should be the widest or close to it.

Got a guy offering me his Steyr m40-a1. Any guys here have any experience with this gun. Opinions? What should i offer? New they are $535 out the door.

Im assuming at the grips as far as widest width? That would all depend on what style forward grip you got or rail system.

was the pistol similar to this? manufactured in 1944 by Inglis in Toronto. i've read online the Canadian military still has some in new, unissued condition.
