Luckily i was stacked pretty deep and avoided all this nonsense! now i just pick it up when i find it at good prices.

Not me, I bought my first handgun February of last year, right when everything started to take a dive. :(

I only got to shoot that gun 2 or 3 times before I sold it because I wasn't keen on paying $15/50 for steel cased garbage.

This is all temporary...one of two things will happen in the near future. Some crazy anti-gun legislation goes into effect and EVERYTHING on the shelf goes wonky again (including .40 and .45) or people continue to calm the fuck down and the popular calibers return to normalcy.

So, since you've made the decision to make .40 your caliber (which isn't a bad one), I suggest stocking up big time while you can. Purchasing online in large quantities is the best way to get a good per round price. 1000 round cases hurt the pocket book but look at it this way. It never expires and has an intrinsic value that as history has shown will only increase with time. You'll do better off having $2000 worth of ammo stockpiled than $2000 in a savings account that isn't gaining enough interest to offset inflation.

Guns and ammo are one of the safer investments one can make right now. JMO of course.

Yeah I need to figure out how I want to stock ammo. I enjoy shooting, but I also want to have a good quantity of JHP on hand as well, so I have to figure out how much I want to spend total and then figure out which way I want to lean. I guess in a pinch FMJ can always be used for home/self defense, and I'm sure as hell not going to use my JHP ammo for target practice lol

Also, do any of you have a pistol in .22LR you'd recommend? My girlfriend insists she wants one in .22, despite my efforts to try to convince her to at least get a 9mm.

Walther P22 and Ruger SR22 are highly regarded.

As for the stock piling thing, my opinion is to stock FMJ only. You get way more for the money and it certainly can be used for self defense, just ask our military. :) I only have enough JHP for my carry pieces and backup mags and I replace that yearly.

The above mentioned .22s are pretty good. I recently shot the m&p22 and it was a great pistol to shoot.

I get into too many arguments about the M&P. My girlfriend's exhusband has one and insists that because it stands for Military & Police that that's what they carry.

IMO, SR22 > P22

P22 seems cheap and the mag release is terribly located. Ruger made a much better interpretation of a compact polymer semi auto 22. Plus no fuss tear down and reassemble like the MarkII/III but they're a classic and some dig the 22/45 Lite. Vdub recommended Brownings Buckmark too so check them all out.

SR22 eats a lot of ammo well with only a few exceptions which is important since beggars can't easily be choosers. Another plus, HiViz finally came out with a fiber optic front sight for it which I was looking for.

I got the sr22 and love it. I also got the threaded barrel version and just need to find a suppressor I want and then wait for it to be cleared.

But I chose the sr22 because it will eat any kind of 22 ammo, even the bulk 22 that is out there. The second mag I ran through the gun was bulk federal and ran without a hiccup.

Plus, the breakdown of the sr22 is very easy. Much more than the buckmark and mark I/II/III pistols.

As said above, the p22 seems very cheap. The few I've shot have felt like toys. Personally the only new 22 pistols I would buy are ruger mki/ii/iii, Browning buckmark, or ruger sr22. Some of the cheap import 22 1911 guns look fun, but I'd never look at them or treat them as anything more than toys.

Lol that's who it was designed for but every department and agency has their own side arm. I think I have seen one LEO actually carrying one. Love the pistol though. They are great for lefties such as myself.

I don't doubt that it's a nice weapon, but her exhusband kinda ruined it for me lol. I also don't like how they fit in my hand, and I've been lusting over Glock since before I was old enough to even know what a good firearm was haha. The majority of LEOs I've encountered have been carrying Glocks, except for the oddballs carrying revolvers.

Gonna try to get some target ammo today so I can go pop off a few rounds from the new Glock. :D

Yeah glock makes a fine pistol. I personally can't shoot them for crap LOL.
