I just had a little chat with my gun guy, this after noon. Seems S&W had brought back the 5" .460 mag. I never said they were cheap, but the platform is indeed old.

I wonder what you mean when you say "noteworthy"?I've ran hundreds of rounds through mine and my dad thousands through his, without noteworthy issues.

Good for you, but I refuse to carry a complex platform with such a finicky history if I were depending on it for my life.I wouldn't hesitate to carry it or use it in a situation that I depend on it.

Your immaturity aside, Ive got a gen 1 Glock 17 that has had 10s of thousands of rounds through it, and it has gone "bang" every single time I have pulled the trigger, WITHOUT exception...100% on every 9mm round type, weight ever made. Even my Kimber manual "warns me" to use 230gr FMJ ONLY, for 100% reliability. If you've had issues with jamming maybe you'd best not shoot at all, since all guns will jam eventually.

We can simply agree to disagree...it wasnt my intention to insult 1911 fans, but after 45 years of shooting everything under the sun, it is not a weapon I would trust to carry, thats all.

"temperamental" "finicky" all terms I agree with when thinking about a 1911.Yes and no. I think that there are newer, possibly better options for reliability, but I won't say that the 1911 is a gun that by design has inherent problems and should be avoided. I just think that they can be temperamental and you should get to know your carry gun very intimately, especially if it is a 1911.

But what happens when it stops running when you need it the most? 8)I don't want anyone that buys a 1911 to think that they have a shitty, unreliable gun, just because it stops running once in a while.

Simple or not, thats the reason I wont carry one. It's usually a simple fix if there is an issue, be it from ammo, magazine, or user error.

That is fine, and that is your choice...like I said, Im not here to bash it, but Im sure you must realize "...to correct it quicky." is subjective when your life is on the line.I feel comfortable carrying my 1911 after working with it to the point that if it should have a malfunction, I am able to correct it quickly.

Two too many IMHO.That said, out of around 1000 rounds, I've only had 2 FTF issues attributed to the factory Colt mag, and 1 stovepipe that happened with WWB ammo. I don't use the factory mag and I don't carry WWB ammo.

I disagree. If I gave up on every manufacturer or design of gun based on a couple of failure to feed issues I probably wouldn't have many options.

Yes, every manufacturer will have occasional issue, and everybody has a story about X gun, regardless of where the problem lies, but it has been my hands-on and direct observations that the 1911 platform has more failures per-capita than any other gun make, or platform.I've had a Glock 27 go tits up on me with failure to eject, a Glock 22 that ejected casings right between my eyes, a Sig P229 that had a weak mag spring resulting in FTF, and a Ruger revolver that had a problem with free-wheeling when I bought it.

My maturity level has little bearing in this conversation, so I suggest you leave those misguided personal attacks at the door.Your immaturity aside, Ive got a gen 1 Glock 17 that has had 10s of thousands of rounds through it, and it has gone "bang" every single time I have pulled the trigger, WITHOUT exception...100% on every 9mm round type, weight ever made. Congrats that your 9mm doesn't jam often, but I won't begin to believe that it doesn't at all. So let's just leave it in an agreement that we don't agree.sigpicComment

Your recommended remedy to me was to quit shooting all together. While not a personal attack, I do find that statement rather juvenile. So before you go throwing rocks...Originally posted by dannyyisnttIf you've had issues with jamming maybe you'd best not shoot at all, since all guns will jam eventually.

I didnt say not "often", I said NEVER.Congrats that your 9mm doesn't jam often,

Actually, I have quite a few guns that are, and will remain 100%. A well maintained gun, that gets worn parts/mags replaced on schedule, and fed decent ammo can operate 100% easily. Your statements makes me think you have limited experience in firearms.but I won't begin to believe that it doesn't at all.

Based on our conversations, I prefer to leave it in what I believe, thank you very much.So let's just leave it in an agreement that we don't agree.
