    Anyone tried absinthe before?

I purchased two bottles of absinthe from germany a week ago and they came in yesterday. I just prepared a glass with louching, etc. Definately a unique, warming taste. Alot of flavor. Anyone else have it before?

No but I've wanted to try it. How did you get it over here and where did you order it from?

I purchased my bottles from the site www.alandia.de

They had a great selection and fast shipping. Shipping was around $50.

Tried it many years ago, actually 1969 I believe, in a bar in Panama. Not to my taste. I've narrowed my drinking to bourbon in the winter and gin in the summer. The KISS principle applies to everything.

Im also a big fan of gin. I would definately compare absinthe with the same tastes of jagermiester(sp?). It is just more richer with better flavoring which is the wormwood.

I've had it, and I pretty much have to agree with the above comments. Def. a unique taste. Reminds me of licorice.

It tastes exactly like black liqourice which I happen to hate. As for all the shit your hear about hallucinaginic properties, thats all bullshit. It was basically just really strong alcohol. Overrated and overpriced if you ask me.

Hahahaha!!! ah, these chicks I went to europe with one summer got some, thinking they'd get high as kites. I figured "what the hell" I tried it, and the chicks thought they were seeing things, but it was nothing but normal booze. Silly bitches.

yea, there is no hallucigainic effect. People have said this because they believe wormwood has the same effects as THC.

Maybe their observed state was caused by all the crack they must be smoking.

The distillate of wormwood (containing thujone) is what gave absinthe its reputation. It was some really wicked shit. IIRC thats one of the factors that allowed Van Gogh to so easily hack part of his own ear off. AFAIK, all modern absinthe does not contain thujone, so basically it's just european liquor.

I thought it was still possible to get absinthe that contained thujone....but not in the USA. Without it, whats the point?

                          I could be wrong though.

this man knows what is up. it still has wormwood in some brands, and hey, wormwood is even in "Four" a Sparxxx knockoff that marketed it as having it in there. however, the effects come from the process it is produced. Think of Samuel L Jackson's Formula 51.

Modern absinthe doesn't need the whole slotted spoon with soaked sugar, flame and all - it's just burning up booze and most come pre-sweetened. 140 proof could use the help though. 110 proof is sweet and tastes great, like Good N Plenty if you enjoy them.

Only gets you drunk - really drunk. A couple of shots can take you from having a good time to 'how the hell did I get here?'

Rumors were that Czech Rep. still had some floating abouts but it may not be true. I'd like to get to Prague to find out (or hire Eastern European models to pose for me with big toys ALS style). Other rumors sourced that Amsterdam had real absinthe but based on my personal exploration on the subject, it is false.

You can import it for Europe and get it with thujone, I have done so several times. Just don't get cheep shit, it taste much worse.

And no you do not trip, just get drunk. Also I'd suggest not doing it as a shot. Drink it right, with water and sugar.
