I have been with Apple since 1984. The year of the SuperBowl Big Brothr ad. Anyway, Apple products haven't always been the best bang for the buck, but lately, they offer great value as they usually come bundle with everything. No need to add cards for this or that. I have an old PowerBook and it has been bullet proof for 2 years.
I agree that the newer MacBooks have a plastic-y build. They almost look like kid toys, but a friend who was a PC addict for a decade just bought one and has only praises. Maybe even the shitty Macs are still better than "better" PCs.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

Let's have some more threads like this one. Like everyone hasn't already made up their mind and "rational" arguments" will make them change. Gee, I didn't know that about Macs! Gee, now you mention that about PC's I'm going to revise my whole system of beliefs. The original poster already decided what he was going to buy before he hit the first key. Welcome to the "trailing edge".

It's simple, for the price difference between a G4 and Pro, I could by a Recaro Speed.
The question is whether I should go for processor speed or Recaro Speed...
Fanzotti: Thank you for restoring my faith in the human race, I was beginning to think Microsoft really HAD gotten to everyone else.... Godamn brainwashing bastards. I would totally rock a macbook if they made one with some more screen real estate.
TJ: I would use nothing BUT Pro-Tools, it is one of the most incredible programs on the market. Once you've used it on both platforms you will "need" a mac though...
Ideal setup for Pro-Tools: Mac Pro, SSL 900-series board. There is virtually no need for a keyboard or mouse with this setup, the engineer can control everything straight from the board and should you decide to change something in the computer it is reflected on the board in real time. Soooo much fun....'89 325is S50 Track Montser

So to all the tools that say macs suck let me tell you why I switched to macs.
Being an Architect, (and a sound engineer in my spare time) all I used for years were PCs for Autocad. I had multiple machines for draft people, and different applications. I paid MS LOTS of freaking money to support me, just in case I ever had a crash. Well I was in the middle of designing a large residence, and like an idiot I did not back up my HD, and I made the stupid mistake of downloading a new service pack from MS. After I restarted my machine, I got the blue screen of death. I was on hold with MS for two PHUCKING HOURS, and finally gave up! NO HELP FROM MS AT ALL!
That little mishap caused me to loose a shit load of money!
Three days later I started thinking about mac, and started looking for CAD software that ran on a mac, so I bought a powerbook G4 17", and a Dual 2.5 G5 desktop. Those machines never let me down once. I now have 1 macbook. 1 17" macbook pro, a dual 2.7 G5, and a mac pro Quadcore 3.0
The macbook, macbook pro, and the mac pro all run windows XP in parallels, so I can run what ever windows programs that are not available for mac.
The only problem I have ever had was with my dual 2.7. The mother board went down, but the genius bar had it together in two days. OH! and my original powerbook now runs as my music server in my home. (It has never failed me once)
The programs I run here, are Archicad 11, Atlantis, pages, MS office, Aperture, Mackie Traction, Protools, Sketchup, GoLive.
Look at the specs on most PCs, then compare the comparable apple machine. Mac kicks all there sissy asses! OH! and if you do have a problem.......... at least there will be a human being at the other end of the phone line that speaks english, and not some one in India that can't speak english!
Also look at the options for the Mac OS. ONE OS that runs on all machines, and you don't need to upgrade your hardware when a new OS comes out.

Lol, thanks you two! Finally some sanity around here! My gig this weekend wasn't quite as lucrative as I had hoped and the grant check is still MIA so I have some time to think. I think based on practicality I will end up going with the G4 use the rest of the money to finish my CD. Then I'll buy car parts.
Oh who am I kidding, I'll be buying car parts before I even deposit the check...'89 325is S50 Track Montser

Internally, my computer is 90% the same as a macbook. Same intel processors, same chipset, same video, BETTER brand of wifi (actual centrino). My PC also has built external video connector so I dont have to haul some stupid adapter around with me when I take it to give presentations. My hard drive is the same one apple has used for some time. My keyboard is mylar sealed to make it water resistant. My chassis is magnesium and doesnt flex like a macbook POS.
So basically I got Macbook Pro build quality, on-site support, macbook specs, a docking station, 2lbs lighter weight, and an SD card reader for only a couple hundred more than a macbook.
When one of our Dell's break, I call. I get either Kendrick or Nick, both are in Virginia. They send a dispatch and the next day a guy shows up at my office to fix or replace whatever. I dont have to go to a Genius Bar or whatever. This is important since I have 137-151 operating client computers and 24 different forms of server to support. Thankfully only 3 are macs and only one is operational. The Mac Pro overheats constantly and the G4 is horribly outdated.
The computers that have indian tech support cost $500, you get what you pay for. Apple is smart not to get into that market, that way fanboys (and fangirls, apparently) can act all smug about how much their $1400 macbook is better than a $460 Toshiba closeout special.Im now E30less.

Being a PC user is not about more complicated electronics or compnesation (which would be the shittiest argument ever since all mac owners do is talk about how superior their computers are, christ you are a fucking idiot. What do they put inthe water up there?) but about having a computer that costs less for the same components and is virtually universally supported and accepted worldwide.Im now E30less.
