MacBook Pro or G4 Powerbook?

Don't worry about it, I got it covered. It's one of those "Hey, you guys get discounts on Macs and I need one, and I get discounts on Adobe software and you need some too..." type deals, the company I'm dealing with is very cool and forward thinking when it comes to bartering and whatnot. I'm going to be helping them out with a display installation at some banks in Tampa in the next month or so, and I think they already have the local microbreweries mapped into the travel plans, just to give you an idea of what I'm dealing with.

I would definately go with the macbook pro, its much faster overall from graphics to processor performance, and has cooler shit like the backlit keyboard and the ability to instant on if it runs out of battery power. It can also run windows through boot camp and parallels. That being said I understand there were a lot of problems with the first gen Intel apple computers. This happens really with any new products from apple especially considering the entirely new transition. I have a refurbished macbook pro and it runs really well, haven't had any issues with it except for minor things (the power cord end broke because it is a pos design, a piece of plastic/rubber is coming off the cover of the inverter board) but other than that it's rock solid. Haven't had a kernel panic yet, and I run a lot of experimental and beta software on it. The only downside is that it cannot run classic, so if that is a must for you, I'd go with the PowerBook G4. The PowerBook G4 will also run a lot cooler, as the MacBook Pro runs pretty damn hot sometimes, but you can use a program like smcFanControl to cool it down. The batteries on the MacBooks also last longer and so far have held a charge better, I haven't had the degredation of my battery that I had with my PBG4 up to this point. On a side note of all these people having problems with their Macs, every computer can have problems, you can still baby it, still run antivirus software, still do everything right and fuck it up. If you had to take your mac back to the apple store 3 times to get it to work right, then the people at the apple store are idiots. I can fix almost any software problem with a mac the first time I sit down with it (I do this for a living). Otherwise it's a hardware problem, and if it's a laptop, you can send it off and get it back in a week or so. Either way you decide to go, I'd also invest in a copy of DiskWarrior just in case, its a good utility to have, and if you have any problems beyond that I can help you out with it.

Yeah, with the amount of graphics I might suddenly be having to work with I think the Pro is a better option for me. Is there a major difference between the speed of the 2.2 and the 2.4 or is it reasonably close enough to skimp and save the extra few bucks?

I would save the extra money and instead spend it on more memory or a bigger HD.
