24 Hours of Lemons (yes lemons)

This was an extremely entertaining event to watch and cover over the last two days. I there was working with autoblog.com doing a LIVEBLOG of the entire event minute by minute. The cars had to be worth less than $500, so there was everything from Pinto's (yes more than one) to a Jeep Cherokee. The race was divided into two sessions adding up to about 15 hours. I plan on competing later on in the year with a team using a gen 2 RX-7.

Most of them couldnt pass smog (CA owns) or were chosen cause the were good track cars..

Most important question...Where do I sign up?

There is a panel of judges, if they think your car is worth more than $500 you startout with a negative amount of laps. Its not a destruction derbey, but there is a lot of contact. There are restrictions on who can drive, and you can do what ever you want to the car as long as its under $500 total including the price of the car (you can spend as much as you want on saftey though). I remember seeing this in an old Road & Track, some E30's were pretty quick, but they had a Corolla that won the race. Apparently you win $500 in nickels, no joke.
