    bump!

I am now the proud owner of an xbox 360.
will this Logitech G25 race wheel that you guys are raving about work with it? this thing looks badass.

I'm hearing some good things about the xbox360 wheel straight from microsoft as well, but from the pics i can tell there is no clutch pedal. Honestly though, I doubt I would miss that. who the hell wants to stall a racecar off the line.

I'm gonna get the Logitech G25 soon and then GTR2 :D

And as if spending the 8 hours a day at work on a computer, 8 hours a week doing homework on a computer, and the various car forums weren't enough, now this.
This is the best decision you will ever make. Say goodbye to a ton of free time.

In demo form, it lets you use three cars (FWD hatchback, RWD Mitsubishi Starion lookalike, turbo version of Starion lookalike) and race at one of the tracks.

GTR2 is what we've based our Driving simulator on, G25 wheel, custom built simulator, 32inch LCD monitor.

Ask Josh, Andy, Clay, Justin or anybody who has played it, its pretty hardcore.

    My top two --

Live for Speed, for the PC -- Best/most-realistic physics of any racing game, period. Online multiplayer is nearly lag-free, and system requirements are very low. Combine this game with a Logitech G25 and I guarantee you'll find no better driving experience with anything else. The only downside is that it's lacking in cars and tracks, and very few of them are real.

Enthusia Professional Racing, for the PS2 -- Best/most-realistic physics of any console racing game, period. It has a little over 200 licensed cars from many different manufacturers, the Nürburgring Nordschleife, Tsukuba, and a lot of fictional tracks based on real-world locations. It even has everyone's favorite winningest touring car...too bad it lacks online play, has a simplistic tuning/customization system, and only has two real tracks. Still, for a realistic driving experience nothing else on consoles can touch it.

In general, if you're mainly looking to tear up the track in roadcars, a console is the way to go. If you prefer dedicated racecars, PC is definitely the way to go. There isn't much overlap with this.

For the PC, aside from Live for Speed, I'd recommend rFactor. It essentially uses the same game engine as the GTR series, but is much more mod-friendly (mod = modification = extra cars/tracks/etc). RFactor isn't as realistic as Live for Speed, and takes a much more powerful computer to run well, but it'll let you use real cars and tracks, and a lot of them.

As for the consoles, if you end up getting a PS2 and Enthusia, there's also Gran Turismo 4, which has shit for physics but a very large and fairly diverse selection of real cars and tracks. On the other hand, there's Forza 2 for the Xbox 360, which is also good, more realistic than Gran Turismo 4, but not nearly as realistic as Enthusia. Of course, Forza 2 has a few things Enthusia doesn't have -- deep customization system, online multiplayer, paint shop -- and the 360 is not only current-gen (unlike the aging PS2), but also harbors other popular racing games, including Test Drive Unlimited and the Project Gotham Racing series (the fourth entry to which looks amazing).

If you want a console, an Xbox 360 is probably the best investment, although for less than the price of a 360 you could buy a Logitech G25 and Live for Speed.

GTR/rfactor/gtl = you have all cars right off the bat, and new cars are being released all the time (mods) Also new tracks.

I can say, drive an e30 around mid america motorplex (my home track) or do some practice laps at a track I am going to be attending, it actually helps alot. It's not perfect, but you would be surprised how accurate most of them are.

That said, it is the same thing, the game takes up alot of time right off the bat to make it good. Not getting cars, but getting your pc setup, hardware and controllers all configured, force feedback settings etc. all tweaked to your liking.

PC = personal computer, you don't need to have the best system in the world to play these games and enjoy them, my specs are mediocre at best.

2.0ghz CPU, x800gto card, 512 ram - I get an average of 50fps in gmotor 2 sims. They are playable (smooth) down to 10fps.

    Plus, you can do this...

Again, muchas gracias for the feedback. The best sim games are made for PC's, as in personal computer? I have zero knowledge of games, as you may have gathered...
