I throw my vote in for Forza 2 on X360 with a wheel & pedals. I'm not the most hardcore gamer type, but I like to just get in and do some Nurburgring laps, and it seems easier to get cool cars in Forza than the drawn out process of getting them in Gran Turismo.

It's like you have to make Gran Turismo your life for a couple weeks to get enough cool cars to make it fun, and the really long races get boring to me.

i gave up on all the hard core sims years ago as I don't have enough time to sit and build a career on the playstation. instead when I need my video driving fix I play trackmania nations, it's free, runs on the PC you already have, can do fine with the keyboard, and the tracks are fun.

personally I have to go with GT4 for the PS2 system. I currently have both next gen systems and am not that happy with the Forza 2 for the 360 well not as much as the GT4 for the ps2 anyways. Currently the next gen systems just do not have much to choose from in the racing genre and the Forza 2 is by far the best on the next gen consoles. But you can still play GT4 on a Ps3 and could even pick a game up for around $10-15 at the game stores used....

PC is the way to go for racing games, always has been. It takes a little time/research to get things setup right, but it's very much worth the effort.

My preference - DFP (g25 is very overpriced and not very good) If you need a 3rd pedal and a shifter, you can buy an actlabs shifter, and make a pedal set (spare e30 pedal box!) and still be under g25 costs with better equipment.

Rfactor is currently the best use of the gmotor2 engine as far as efficiency/playability goes, the only thing it really lacks is rain, but 99% of people don't use this feature in league racing etc. anyway.

Simbin makes great sims, but their user support is awful and the games are buggy, never to be fixed. As such I would not recommend them.

Do you want "real" racing games? or just hold the gas down through the entire race?

I get tired of real ones after a while, especially when I don't have a steering wheel to work with.

My favorite non-real racing games are the burnouts for the xbox (I think a 360 one is coming out soon), midnight club for xbox and PC, and FTMFW Excite Truck for the Wii!

GTR is great if you're willing to spend a lot of time fiddling around, it's a hardcore sim and you need to adjust every aspect of your car for each track.

Charlie does have a good point. PS2 has alot of games and still is coming out with games for it. And the prices are alot cheaper then the new systems.
