R/C car suggestions

Get something that can go anywhere. The RC 1/10 street cars are fun but seem to break much easier and are limited to certain surfaces.

We have a blast with my HPI Savage X and Traxxas Revo.. though between the 2 the Savage X is much more reliable. I've put it through all kinds of hell and only had to replace 1 A arm and 3 plastic spur gears. The 4.1 Nitro Star starts everytime within seconds and I've never had it overheat.

The Traxxas Revo seems to break everytime you jump it and their transmissions are shitboxes.

Ive got a Tamiya TL-01 chassis with Estoril Blue painted e36 M3 body if you wanna buy it. I think ive even still got the ESC, and motor.

TL-01 is really oldschool, but you can do tons of mods to them.

I would look for a used car for cheap. That way you can get a better car for a lot less then new. For example, I got my 4-Tec used for $45 with a speed controller and motor. I dump another $75 or so into it for a radio and a few other things it needed and I had a great car.

The biggest thing I don't like about the TT01 kits are that they have friction shocks and NO adjustability in the suspension.

The 4-Tec only comes RTR with a mechanical speed control anymore, but I think it's because Traxxas is revamping all their cars. Might wait and see if they come out with something in the next few months, or, if you don't want to wait, look for something else, or used.

The Sprint 2 definitely looks like a better car then the TT01 and so does the Trinity T-spec.

Don't forget, that you will need batteries and a charger.

The first battery is worth the extra money, IMO. Will give you TONS of runtime.

I have one and LOVE it. Simple, hook up the battery, hit the button, it beeps when it's done. Cheap too and AC/DC with multiple charge rates.

No wonder you're breaking shit. Jump of ramps and landing on the ground like that is TERRIBLE for the cars. You might as well just throw them through the air. Not only are you bottoming out the suspension every time, when you land with the wheels spinning and almost no forward motion, you're putting a HUGE shock on the drivetrain.

The Savage really isn't in the same class as a Revo though. A Revo was made lightweight and fast with good track suspension. Hence, why it doesn't take 6ft. drops well. The Savage should be compared to a T-Maxx if anything. After all, a lot of the Savages design came from the T-Maxx (along with most other RC monster trucks today).

You should take those trucks out to a local BMX track and run the track with them. Talk about fun

I went to a hobby shop today and I really liked the TC4 RTR kit, though I'd rather piece it together myself, it seems like their aren't too many affordable "build it yourself" kits out there anymore these days.

Thanks for the offer on the Tamiya, but I don't think I am going to go for a TL01. Though if anybody else has stuff they are willing to sell I'd be interested.

The difference being is that the T-Maxx is a definately a piece of shit. One of my bashing buddies owns a T-Maxx 3.3. Every time we go out to bash after 5mins something major breaks.

As fas as the jumps are concerned the Savage is built to take a severe beating whereas most Traxxas stuff is built to break so you're always buying new parts.

My t-maxx hold's together just fine. Even with the big block in it. Only time i have problems with it is when a set screw backs out of the drive shaft cause i never put thread lock on it.

can't go wrong with an RC-10. That was my first serious R/C car. Converted it to LTO and raced it on a dirt oval. But that was....Holy Jesus, that was 1989...

I don't know what you do to your cars, but I've never heard of anyone else having problems with their T-Maxx. And from what I've seen in person, they are bulletproof.
