This has to be one of the most pointless threads out there. Why talk about you deadly habit:down: Finally Illinois is going to become a smoke-free state
This is what I don't understand. By NO means am I a smoker (I'm a long distance runner for crying out loud), but I don't see the harm in allowing businesses to decide whether or not they want to subject their customers to second hand smoke. You're not forced to go to the business where smoking is allowed by any means, so why should it be an issue?
To me it is simply a restriction of what should be a freedom.
For some reason the smell of second hand Camels makes me want one, even though I hate them the few times I tried them. But the smell of Winstons makes me want to ralph.
Weird that you mention that. I've never smoked (never will), but used to carpool to college with a guy that smoked Camels, and I swear the smoke calmed me, and smelled so good. I didn't mind a bit when he lit up. Any other cig, I'm gettin pissed off that it's near me.
Due to peer pressure when I was 17, I tried chew, and threw up (after a MEAN buzz), and now just the smell makes me vomit in my mouth.

What about people who work there? Should a long time employee be forced to put up with the new guys second hand smoke?

I used to dip when I played baseball, and that first buzz made me almost fall over during practice.
Smoking is your decision and I'm not going to give off the "holier than thou" attitude. But I do think that non-smokers have the right to not have it around them, so I do support all the smoking bans that are taking place.
This is a prime example of what is happening with this country in general. More restrictions, for the "better" of the population.
There is no right or wrong. If you are the type to enjoy freedom and not feel as though you need government protection, then you'll probably be against the smoking ban. If you are the type of person that is willing to give up freedom for extra protection, then you'll probably be for it.
I'll still stand by my word - this world is fucked.

Well, the transition usually only goes one direction: smoking to non-smoking.
Any long-time employee would have known that it was a smoking-allowed establishment at the time of hire.
True, I still think its pretty rude that someone should have to find a new workplace because of another inconsiderate employee/client.
I'm normally against governments being over protective, especially if its only yourself your harming, but I feel differently about smoking, not so much for the smokers sake but the people around him/her. Most of my mates used to smoke on the turps and I just put up with it, however public places should be smoke free. All those going on about freedoms, what about the freedoms of non smokers? Should it also be their right not to have to put up with seond hand smoke?
That said, most smokers are considerate and will take it outside regardless of where they are/ what the rules are.

i used to be a recreational cigarette smoker til i started playing college soccer. it was then someone introduced me to the wonder that is Grizzly wintergreen. Ive tried quitting, but it is ungodly hard...and i just love the buzz.

Yeah, that was my dip of choice. At school, there are skoal tents set out at lots of frat parties and the bars that give away dip. We always joked at becoming "slaves to the skoal corporation" and it actually happened to some guys I know.
I still throw a pinch in once in a blue moon, and I try and keep it that way because I know how easy it is to get hooked.
You guys that smoke are fucked. I deal with cancer patients every day and about half have restaging non small cell lung cancer. They are dying and they regret it.
