You're going to be in trouble come claim time. They're going to find out you're the owner and live somewhere else, and then they can deny your claim since they haven't ever been accurately charging you for your car. :eeek: That might suck if you end up hitting someone, hurting them, and needing to settle for $34,000 out of your own pocket.
To the thread creator, yes that sounds right. You need to get your own insurance if you are not living at home anymore. Depending on your age/driving record different companies could have different rates for you. Be sure to call around and check everywhere. Also do some research into teh company you choose. Geico (and other like companies) are only good while you're driving around paying less. When a claim happens and you're waiting 10 months for a check instead of 10 weeks it sucks. It sucks even more when your payout is $3,400 instead of $4,300. State Farm, Amica, USAA (if eligible; military) are good companies. Geico, Progressive, etc.... well, you get what you pay for.1991 BMW E30 318i sedan

AAA FTW, multiple car discounts, good driver discounts, it's own DMV in the office, maps..blah blah blah. State Farm and Farmers were a rip for me.Mtech1 v8 build thread - https://www.r3vlimited.com/board/sho...d.php?t=413205

Yippie!
TJ, you need to shop around.
As you are out of school, you are no longer likely able to claim to be a memeber of their household and therefore dont get the benefit of their discounts.
You might ask some folks you know for a referral to an Independent Insurance Agent who can shop you with several different carriers. AllState, State Farm and many others have "captive" agents who only sell that company.
We are with Kemper through an Independent Agent and we pay a lot less with them than anyone else has quoted us.
Mind you, that is with our homeowners, cars and umbrella policy all through the same carrier. See if you can get a bundle discount by having your renters/homeowners with the car insurance.Current Cars2014 M235i2009 R56 Cooper S1998 M31997 M3

I was essentially in your same situation a few years ago, TJ. It was cheaper for me to buy a liability only beater to list as my primary vehicle, and put the E30 w/ full coverage as my weekend/pleasure vehicle. I believe I was also getting my multi-car discount by insuring 2 vehicles.
It is actually cheaper for me to insure all 3 of my vehicles by doing liability only on my jeep that I drive everyday plus insure both my E30 and E36 w/ full coverage than it would be to, say, only have the E36 as my primary vehicle w/ full coverage. I currently pay $160/month for all 3 vehicles.

Shop around TJ. You're still going to probably be bending over for whatever insurance company you pick though.Last edited by DEV0 E30; 07-31-2007, 01:56 PM.

Well I just signed up with Liberty Direct. After doing quote after quote this afternoon, they were the cheapest and offered more coverage than most other places. For instance, I was going to pay $199 a month for 25/50 coverage with no-frills, and $500 deductables from Progressive. I got 50/100 coverage with a few bonuses like rental coverage for $177 a month from Liberty. Much cheaper than I was originally thinking (~$2,100 a year).
