    Laptop users?

Just wondering how many laptop users we have on R3V. I just ordered my new laptop on Monday, a Dell Inspiron 1721. I'm getting rid of my desktop computer, I'm sick of being tied to the desk here in the back of the house, I want to be able to sit out in the living room and what not, and take it places with me. Here's the system I just ordered:

    Inspiron 1721, AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK-53 (1.7GHz/512KB)
Jet Black Color with Matte Finish
    2GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
    Anti-glare, widescreen 17.0 inch display (1440 x 900)
ATI RADEON Xpress1270 256MB HyperMemory for Inspiron 1721 (Integrated)
    160G 5400RPM SATA hard drive
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, English
Integrated 10/100 Network Cardand Modem, for Inspiron
    8X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive
    Integrated High Definition Audio 2.0
Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card
    NO WEBCAM OPTION
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery, for Inspiron 1721
    1 Year Limited Warranty

Should be here in a week or 2 if all goes well, and I'm going to be removing Vista from it as soon as it gets here and installing XP Pro, so that should make it even faster. What are you guys running for laptop setups?

I also have a Dell Inspiron 710m. Not a big computer buff but I got it for free and it works.

        Laptops Rule

Yeah, I got a Dell right around Christmas time - the Inspiron E1505 which was formerly known as the Inspiron 6400. I got a great deal on it as well by using a promotion code that a friend told me about ($350 off!) so it ended up costing just under $1,500.

        I configured it like this:
        • Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0 GHz with 4MB Cache
        • Intel PROset Wireless
        • Whatever Bluetooth it came with (I don't use it)
        • 15.4 Inch WSXGA+ Display (love the glossy look with the wide screen and wide angle viewing)
        • ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 256MB
        • DVD+/-RW 8X
        • Dual In-Line Memory 2GB 667MHz
        • 120GB Serial ATA Hard Drive

That is funny you're going to reformat it to get rid of Vista. The first thing I did when I got mine was delete XP and install Gentoo Linux with the KDE window manager on it, but I'm a nerd and I know it. I love it when Apple users are like "How is it that you're using a PC and you can read my OSX formatted external hard drive?", "How did you get the OSX Exposé on a PC?", etc.

Good luck with the new laptop. I really enjoy mine - it is great to be able to take it anywhere and always have my files and stuff with me.

                        Dell Inspiron.

I take it everywhere. You will love the freedom. Not too happy with Dell tech support. Wanted me to send the laptop to India for repair!

                        WHAT????????????

Very nice choice. I love mine. One warning, get a new hard drive for XP. Dell will not support the system with an OS other than in the order details, any problem you have will start with first get your OS disk out & reinstall Vista.
