Animal Cruelty: Thoughts (Vick related)

I was talking to some random guy at work today about Vick. I expressed that the sentence related to his potential/actual charges seemed quite harsh. He went one to state how he doesn't see what is so wrong with what they were doing. Basically expressing a disbelief in animal cruelty. Now I'm not here to judge but I personally believe anyone who willfully inflicts this type of shit on animals has some serious issues. What are you guys' thoughts on the laws governing this?

Feel welcome to add any recent details in the case as I have actually not read much into it other than what he can be charged with and the sentence.

Given all of the barbaric things that we as humans do to animals without giving it a second thought, I would suggest that dog fighting for personal entertainment and monitary gain isn't the worst thing that you can do to an animal.

My guess is that he got caught simply because he didn't realize how fast-paced and upbeat the town is. Everything is spread apart- MUCH further apart but the police come just as quickly as they would in any city if your house was being broken into.

In regards to that first paragraph I agree to the extent of your point. However I am one that thinks shooting birds is pretty f'd up. Then again, I have no hunting background or anything of the like. Straight city since I was born. Shooting birds (or whatever the technical and therefore more justifiable term) seems to be more sporting than fighting dogs and then killing them in sick ways..

I work with an animal rescue group here in SOCAL called United Hope for Animals (UHfA). Our primary focus is in changing things down in Baja Mexico.
I have seen some of the worst of the worst when it comes to animal cruelty down in TJ. We are starting to make a little bit of a difference down there, but we will never be able to completely fix things.
UHfA has put down many a pitbull that has been used in fighting both down there, and up here as well (all the way to Covina, and Pasadena). I will never be able to conceive what kind of sick mind would get off on seeing animals get rip to shreds, and then left to die, or be killed because they did not perform for some sick bastard.

My sweet little Ali was so severally hurt when I adopted her from UHfA. She came from the Perrera (dog pound) in TJ right before they were going to electrocute her (that is how they used to euthanize animals before we came on the scene). Some one in TJ had either lit her on fire, or poured scalding liquid on her back. She will never have hair back there but I love her anyways.
But to know this sweet little quiet animal, you have to look at her and say why? We see so many really cool dogs (big and small) with broken bones from someone kicking them, or hitting them with a car,and just left to suffer a painful death.

I really hope that Vic, and everyone concerned with him get the maximum sentence in the case, and it sends a clear message that Illegal animal fighting is not tolerated in this country.
I love pits. and they really do get a very bad rap. It is the people that make a dog mean, not the dog.

Yeah, When I walk my pit people look at me like I am a menace to society. And China is the sweetest thing except to other little creatures such as racoons and squirrels and anything that moves (except for other dogs) It's like it's programmed in her. She can't see something moving in the woods without going into hunting/attacking mode, standing straight, tail straight up and ATTACK!!!! I also get the famous "walking the pit in the hood question".... "yo, you got any puppys?" LOL

i showed biscus ali's pic and he would like some ass shots. he likes her eyes but biscus is an ass lover. he also requested that when you take the ass shots that you lift the tail so he gets a clear shot of the browneye.

edit, i would like to submit vick to the same cruelty he subjected those poor dogs to. theres no excuse in the world for treating a living thing like that

Hey SandyEggoE30Girl.... glad to hear you are taking care of these animals... I have always wanted to do something like this... but I find, when I think about it, or see it... it infuriates me so much.... I become violent...

It's nice to see cooler heads can prevail, for the greater good.... of these unfortunate animals....

Mike Vick is a piece of shit. Not just because hes an overrated, overhyped, quarterback, with the lack of vision and leadserhip required... But as a person also.

He does this for more than money. The purses were looking to be about $1k a purse, he makes that taking a shit. He does it for the "fun" of it all, it seems. If you want to fight dogs, I feel thats wrong. But it doesnt stop there. To fight your dog, and if he loses youre gonna kill him, thats fucked up. But not to just kill them humanely, but to shock, drown, slam on the ground, etc, is just sick.

I hope the piece of shit goes to jail for some time. And based on the fact that 96% of all federal idictees are convicted, I Think he will be in jail. Im not quite sure what he can be charged with really.. Animal cruelty, organizing an illegal operation, along with funding it, doing so crossing state lines, or using federal ways of communications (Like a cell phone, ala Jamal Lewis) to organize this all.

Either way, I think and hope hes fucked.

My only question is why is he not already behind bars? Money? In the last two months alone, someone around here had been arrested for the same thing and they are already behind bars awaiting trial.
