I think its one-upsmanship.

I grew up in a black neighbourhood and have dated a few black girls and I noticed as I got older the kids names got more and more complex, even to modify older black names. Like adding a ta- or a la- onto already long ass names.

I guess they are supposed to sound african but have nothing to do with the actual languages.
