    I guess it depends on the escalator. I once tried walking normally up a down escalator and I made it to the top much quicker than I anticipated. Granted it was more "steps" but typically an escalator goes slow enough to where if you change your mind you can turn around and get off of it.

    What I find to be really fun are those travelator things in the airport. Its like an escaltor but its flat like a conveyor belt and it saves you from having to walk the LONG length of the building from one terminal to the next. I actually ran on one of those things trying to catch my plane and when you run on something that is already moving forward you can make up some serious time!
