I've seen a couple around town here. They are cool little cars. Now you need to drop a V8 in it.

Several years back my brother had a '79 280ZX 2-seater....my first taste of driving a straight six powered car. His was pretty much stock except for later model 15" Z wheels so it was more of a cruiser than an edgy racer. If I were to wade into Z car tuning, I'd want to get a pre '75 model 240 to be exempt from Calif smog laws and have some fun with triple twin-barrel carbs or drop a 350 Cheby into it :-D

I had a 88 300zx turbo, was fun but such a short wheelbase, like 91". good for drag and drag only, i rolled it trying to drift it at the track, lol. they suck for drifting, lol, atleast thats what everyone said AFTER i rolled it. i think the 79 zx had a pretty short wheelbase too but still a fun good looking car.

My brother has a POS 280z that i daily drove for a few months, but it was far from a decent example of a z. I have a friend with a little more decent z that he was making a turbo project until he gave up on megasquirt after failing to make it run, now he is trying to go sidedraft carbs. Fun nice looking cars, I like them.

yeah the guys got a whole black interior swap for me. the color of the z is black with i think gold right round the bottom. ill take some pics tomorrow. the guy i bought it from said he was gonna drop in a v8. but i guess he didnt get around to doing it. im gonna be using it as a daily. i was looking for a 300zx becuase its more modern but still has that old look to it. but many around here are automatics. and another thing that would have been cool with this car is the targa tops.

it needs the exhaust manifold gasket. anyone with a z know how to get to the manifolds? they look pretty hidden

                      and thanks

I just drove a 79 zx, i am sorry. On another note, my friend is finishing up his ls1 240z project, should be road worthy in the next week or so. It is a rebuild from the ground up with a full cage and way to much time spent on it.

I had a 280 back in college - it was fun. If I could build a nice one, I'd drive it - but I don't want my old one back, it was a pos.
