      And here is my home.

I guess my numbers are lower than some of the others, but I'm overall happy.

Yeah, you would think that it was dialup.. LOL

Foolishly I called up Comcast to complain but I had a temporary brain fart and forgot that this computer was connected to my ISDN line (fractional T1). I felt like such an idiot when I was on the phone talking to the rep when I saw where it said, "Verizon" on the net speed thingy.

Bummer - I'm even the furthest house from the little junction box so I have a booster on the line. From what the installer said the internet signal is more sensative than the TV signal too.

Is your internet always that slow/fast? - seems like a rip-off for what they charge us if so.

This is turning into useful thread. Good job OP.

:::EDIT::: I just looked at Luke's above, and it's sure looking like Comcast has a real varience in what you get. Guess I'm not as slow as I just expected since I have that little box on the line.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

I have DSL, I'll check it when I get home. My service is slow as balls though, my LEC has 3 different plans and I have the "middle" one. IIRC it's like 768k up / 256k down.

Testing with the san fransisco thingy:

                              Using San Jose:

                              New York:

                              Yokohama, Japan:

                              Nuremburg, Ger:

                              Repeat of SF test:

I think once you get up above 1mb, it starts getting limited by how robust the network is in your region, beyond how your house/neighborhood is wired.
I'm in a crappy old building with ancient wiring. I'm sure the rest of the university gets better results.

I had DSL a long time ago but I was unhappy with the amount of times it kept going down. I had to call Verizon at least once every couple of days to have the line reprovisioned. I ended up having to take the fractional T1 because of the reliability and consistency of the signal was better. I have had DSL at other times in other locations over the last few years and I have had nothing but bad experiences with it. Once FIOS is available in my area, I am getting that at both the office and at home.
