Basicaly the m3 started out as a 2dr and it shoulda stayed that way, its one thing if the car start out as a 4dr like a imprezra or lancer.

I don't see how the M5 is any different.

The M5 did not come in wagon form...until recently, yet I don't hear anyone complaining about that...

      Same deal here.

Everyone seems to be in some kind of "hate" mode lately.

        ok...

Well first off your sentence structure is absolutely horrible and hard to read. From what I can gather you are saying that since the first M3 was 2 door all M3s should be 2 door?

What if you want M3 performance but you have a family AND only the budget for 1 car. 4 Door M3 to the rescue. I am "pretty sure"... I could be wrong but the first real performance impreza was based off the 2.5RS Coupe. So the new STIs in Sedan are dumb and so is the new STI wagon. This is just ignorant.

So is an e46 M3 convertible not an M3 either? Because although it is 2 doors the top goes down?

So since all the original BMW's were coupes they should have never made a 4 door/convertable/touring at all, ever?

                Yup!

But they made airplane engines first... Should have never made cars anyways.

first of all, the 2.5rs was always available (stateside) in both coupe and sedan.

second, the WRX existed overseas (in coupe, sedan, and wagon) way before we ever got the 2.5rs, so it's wrong to point to that car as an "evolutionary stepstone" of the model in the first place.

Just because the thing has four doors doesn't make it a "horrible" car.....but everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so I'll toss in mine. I personally think the new M3 sedan beats the coupe in looks anyday of the week. And whether the buyers of these cars are posers or weekend auto-x'ers & HPDE junkies, BMW will probably sell a good number of them due to the practicality factor. In regards to the older version of the M3 sedan, the E36 M3 4-door is a great car. Perfectly suitable for daily use yet you can take it to a track day and have more than enough fun to keep most enthusiasts content. I've given serious thought about making one of these as my next Bimmer (if my next car should be a Bimmer). A few other fast 4-door offerings that'll set your pants on fire.....

Any series of the M5 (with a personal bias towards the E28 and E34)

Audi B6 and B7 chassis S4 (and the new RS4 for that matter)

                      The STI

I think any of these rides make great dual-purpose cars. Workday hero and weekend warrior all in one package. Certainly the way to go if you don't have the money/space to have two rides (one daily, one track).
