Danny, for frame size, you're going to want between a 56 and a 58. 58 is what I ride, and I'm 6' 1", but I wouldn't mind having something a touch smaller, so you'll probably want a 56.
Yes, you can convert a multi-speed bike to a fixie, but it has to have horizontal rear dropouts, or you won't be able to tension the chain properly. For $300, you can get the same bike I have, a Windsor Hour, or there's $300 fixies on ebay all day long. But you could probably build your own for around that too, just find some stupid cheap road bike and convert it.Comment

Well I don't really want a fixie, I've ridden some around and I'd like to keep the coasting ability.
How tough is a single speed conversion?

Okay guys, shopping for new tires, and I want to add a little zest into the mix. I can get celeste matched in a particular set of Vittoria's, but from most accounts I've heard they're pretty mediocre. However, red striped tires are available in a lot more choices.
Heres an idea of the colors together:
Heres my bike:

I just wish UPS was faster, that or I'm too cheap to pay for faster shipping. Gonna have to figgure why my chainline is nowhere near straight.Comment

Farbin they make aluminum spacers in different thickness' to move the crank arms back and forth to get your chain as straight as possible.
Also might be known as chain ring(wheel) spacers...Comment

I would trade my sick ass FSR Mt Bike for either of those three any day.-Erik

DMR makes a pretty nice kit we've been selling a lot this summer.
@ farbin, check the measurement from the centerline of your frame to the chainring, and there should be some specs available somewhere the should tell you what to look for if you know your frame mfr & parts group. yes there are spacers for bb shells, but with the right spindle length you should not need more than 2 (+-1cm total, more than 5mm worth of spacer is a lot, especially when you consider the forces invoved in a fixed drivetrain, imo.)Originally posted by DozyproductionsYou know why you're drinking that Pabst? ^^huh? fixies are as function-driven as it gets. simple, clean, and devoid of excess. same with ss setups.Originally posted by DozyproductionsYou know why you're drinking that Pabst? No its probably not because it was the first beer you grabbed. It's because you're a winner.Comment
